Does anyone just catch a taxi from the airport to their hotel?

I'm debating whether or not to just catch a taxi at the airport when we arrive, instead of either getting a towncar service or using the Mears shuttle. Our flight arrives late at night on a Thursday (around 10:30pm), so I doubt it will be crowded. We're staying at Shades of Green, so no Magical Express.

I'm shying away from Mears, because the last time we used it, it took freaking forever to get to our hotel, with numerous stops at other resorts. Plus, late at night, I'm worried we'd end up either:

a. Waiting around until enough people showed up at the Mears counter to make it worth their while to put us all on a bus, or

b. Getting on a bus with passengers from literally every hotel at WDW, since it's late at night, there are fewer passengers, so you can't group people by resort and minimize stops - there's one bus, and everyone gets on it!

I want to get to the hotel as quick as possible, so we can check in and get an early start the next morning.

Given the choice between a taxi and a towncar service, what would you choose? I've seen towncar rates from $109-$120 or so, not including tip. I have read on allearsnet.com that a taxi is about $45, so I'd be saving about $30, give or take. Any input is appreciated, thanks!

I've never done it at MCO, but in other cities, with such a tiny little difference in price, I've reserved a car service (which also means having the driver meet you inside the airport) versus catching a taxi. Just my personal preference.

The cost differential is so small, that it's worth it to me to have the car service. You can also arrange for a quick stop at a grocery store on the way to your resort -- I know you said you want to get there ASAP, but a stop for water bottles and other snacks is time and money well spent. Can't do that without a surcharge from the taxis.

Usually most car services are cheaper than the Taxi meter rate. There are some that are higher and that would be Mears and Beeline transportation to start. They providea good service and like one poster has mentioned they will meet you at the escalator and help with bags, escort you to their car and even through in a grocery stop if you should want one. They are equal to the speed that you get there in a taxi, just give you a lot more help in luggage.

Just negotiate a flat rate before you get in the cab. They will do it every time. Make sure the rate includes any tolls.

Orlando Cabs do not negotiate a flat rate. They are required by city law to run their meters.

Beeline Transportation has ceased operating, closed, gone, poof, etc. Only the Mears/DME monopoly as a concession now at MCO. Yes, there are many companies permitted to pick you up at MCO... towncar, limousine, van, suv, mini bus, bus, or even helicopter.
