Does anyone here work at Zellers?

Hi, I'm just wondering about good old Zellers because the one in my town is hiring. I need something for a little extra Christmas money this year so I'm thinking of applying. But I wonder if anyone knows what it is like to work there, what the beginning pay would be, anything at all really.

I used to work there...I started at $7.00 an hour but I think they should be up around $10 by now...
It was an ok place to work..not very stressful plus now Zellers is not very busy....so it should be an easy job.

It depends on what province. Usually starts at minimum wage, then 1st raise in 3mts, 2nd in 1 yr. based on performance...
Sadly they do not increase existing rates when minimum goes up.like they used to. We have some long time people there making not much more than kids there for 1 year.

The company is under major re structuring. HBC was sold to an americian a few years back. He recently passed away and his widow sold the company again.

But if all you're looking for is money for Christmas, and not a career, even if it's terrible, your discount is a nice benefit that will help Santa fill his sack. Your discount is off lowest price, so when stuff goes on clearance you still get a discount off that, and it is not very often that staff are not allowed to buy something, so the benefit of being there and knowing what is available is great too. OH and if you have a market, there is also a discount off the groceries.

I was a store manager for Zellers until 2005, I would say it should be a good job for what you are looking for. The discount program is not as good as it used to be, but it is still better than most stores. You also get your discount at the Bay and Home Outfitters, I furnished my house on beautiful Bay furniture, and with sales and discounts, was very affordable.
The only thing I would say is never go into management, ever. They pay very good money, but you would have zero personal life.
I also LOVED hiring people that wanted a little bit of money on the side. It was usually a mom, and her "paying" job was her escape from the family for just a little bit , and they had the best attitudes too.
