I was just curious, we have stayed all over Disney, and love each place for its own charm...least favorite was Coronado Springs, but thats another story...but for example while I like Wilderness Lodge, I do like Port Orleans better....

Anyone here truly enjoy mods or values over deluxes?

Not really, but I like what it does (or doesn't do) to my wallet. :rolleyes1

Absolutely love POR! My kids really enjoy it there-from Old Man Island's pool, the large food court, gift shop, pole fishing, and the 24 hour quiet pools. The relaxed atmostphere and lake, as well as the boat to DTD are all added factors. I don't want to catch a flame but we had to stay one night at the end of our trip at POP and we were all a little deflated. The theming is cute and we walked around POP reading the year signs and taking icon pictures but there was a noticable difference in shade and greenery. POR feels like a vacation Resort more than a hotel and we love that. It is also not deluxe priced.

As we've been trying more and different resorts, we're realizing that what matters a lot to us, is the location of the resort. And since the deluxe resorts usually have the best locations with a few different transportation options, we find ourselves thinking of those resorts for each subsequent trip.

We just stayed at the Wilderness Lodge and the Polynesian this past summer. Then DH and I decided we wanted to go back to WDW, just us without the kids, this fall. We chose Pop Century. But the more we thought about it, the more realized how much the monorail and boat transportation added to the enjoyment of our trip.

So speaking for myself only, of course, I think I'd like almost any "resort" because I feel they each are wonderful in their own ways, we really like and want the best location possible. :)

Pop is our absolute favoriate. We stayed at CBR and POFQ and loved all of them, but there is something about Pop that me and my family are just crazy about. We went for the second year in a row this last August and when we walked into the lobby we all just looked at each other with these huge grins and just said (WER'E HOME).

We love Pop!!!

Nope....if I can't have a queen bed, my vacation is ruined. My hubby and I ALWAYS sleep together and need atleast a queen to be comfortable. We also have 2 kids and need the daybed for the 3 year old and the other queen bed for the 11 year old (who sleeps ACROSS the bed! :teeth: )

Nope -- there's no way I would ever prefer getting on a bus over taking the short walk to Epcot from the YC or the monorail to MK from the Poly.

I most definitely prefer the moderates over the values, too!

My bank account would be happier with tent camping at FW!

I was gonna spend the big $$$ for a room at the AKL, but DGF pointed out that that we really wouldn`t be spending too much time in the room or at the resort. We`re staying at ASMu instead and DD12 is just as excited as if we were staying at AKL. :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

We also have to have at least a queen sized bed, and our two DSs are teens now, so we need the space of a deluxe. It's also a necessity to have Internet connectivity, so that's another reason to book a deluxe, although I know that all deluxes aren't hooked up yet. We have loved POR as well, but I think the size of the room, (especially since we stayed at CR in April) might make us go a bit stir crazy at this point. We spend quite a bit of time in the room in the evening, just unwinding from the parks. My older DS also has to be able to go out and skateboard around a bit to keep him happy. I'm hoping to rent points from a DVCer at some point. My fantasy is to have a one-bedroom unit so that I could do a bit of laundry everyday. That way, we wouldn't have to travel like a band of wandering gypsies with six bags! :flower:

While I own at BWV, I love staying in the other resorts! I love them all for very different reasons. I have no problem staying in AllStarMusic or Pop rather than BW....as long as my dh isn't with us. If the three of us go, then it's hard to stay in the same room due to dh's snoring issue. But we don't take advantage of the deluxe amenities all that much and we love having food courts. POR is still 'home' to us as it was our first resort back in '99..DxL back then. So, no....we have no problems with all levels of resorts.

All Stars is my favorite resort!!

I am 55 years old and travel several times a year. I often stay at 4 star hotels.
So the deluxe resorts do not have anything special for me.
All Star is like being in the heart of the Magic and that is where I want to be.

All Star Music is my favorite. It is quieter because more couples stay there. I love staying at the Clypso building. It is closer to the pool, food court and bus stop.

Bus rides are quite short from the ALL Stars according to PassPorter.com

It only takes 10 minutes to get to Epcot,MGM and AK from All Stars.
MK is 20 min away. That's the same amount of time it takes on the monorail from the Contemporary.

I have visited WDW more than a dozen times with the 1st time in Oct. 1971. It was brand new. I've stayed at FW, Disney Inn, a few the of Hotels on hotel Blvd., CBR and the towers at the Contemporary. I got to see the MK from my balcony at the Contemporary and I'm happy I got to experience it once. I just prefer the All Star Resorts.
The theaming is pure Disney.
My last 4 visits have been at The All Stars and this fall when we take dd,dsil, and our grandson age 3 we are staying at the All Stars Music. I thought about AKL and even though we can well afford AKL I just wanted Alex to experience the Disney Magic :wizard: at the All Stars on his first visit.
Where else can one find Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse at the pool?
Have a great time at Disney!

If you really want to stay at the heart of the Magic, why stay 15 mins. away from the nearest park? The Deluxe`s have by FAR the best locations on property!! Weather its the MK rersorts or Epcot resorts, no moderate much less value resort will even come close to matching the location!!

It depends on the type of trip for us. Our first trip with 3 kids (10, 7 and 2) was at the Polynesian in one room, concierge. Of course, it was during the great code fest so we only paid $229 (or was it $279?) a night, but it was fabulous and with the stroller I LOVED being on the monorail. :cool1:

August 2004 my oldest dd (then 12) and I went down for a mother/daughter weekend. We had done an offsite on Priceline (never again) and it was nasty so we ended up calling and got $79 a night at Pop Century. We were in the 50's building right next to the pool and LOVED it.

I about 3 weeks we are going for another family vacation. This on includes my mom and also Aunt Jane in addition to Dh and the above 3 dds now 4 (5 in Nov), 10 and 13. We have 3 rooms at POR and considering the cost difference (saving about $3000 over the Polynesian......not even concierge) I am anticipating a great time.

I would love to stay at any of the deluxes and would do so exclusively IF money were no factor. Since it is (why will no one drop money in my lap? :confused3 ) I am anticipating a new favorite.

That's what makes everyone different, I guess. To me, "magic" is being able to sit on my balcony and watch the strolling enterainers on the Boardwalk or being able to take the boat from the Wilderness Lodge to the Magic Kingdom on a foggy early morning or getting up in the night to go to the bathroom and peaking out my window to see zebras playing in the moonlight or sitting in the Grand Floridian lobby just soaking up the atmosphere. For us, the resort is as much a part of the vacation as the parks. We tend to spend a lot of time at the resorts enjoying the shopping, dining, recreation, theme, etc.

We also travel a lot and have stayed in lots of 4 Star hotels - but we've never seen one with a pool like Stormalong Bay or one with a view of giraffes from the balcony or one with an awe inspiring lobby like the Wilderness Lodge! To us, that's Disney magic!

Now, having said that, we do enjoy some of the moderates. Coronado Springs is our favorite. We LOVE it there.

And, we are staying at All Star Movies this December because we just bought a new house, and money is tighter. But, if it weren't, we would definately be at a deluxe. I would never pick a value or moderate (other than Coronado Springs) over a deluxe if money weren't an issue. I'm sure we'll have a great time at All Star Movies, and I know our two year old will love it, but I know I'll be missing our other holiday time favorites - Wilderness Lodge, Boardwalk, and Grand Floridian!

We've been to them all: Deluxes, Values and Mods.

So far, Coronado Springs is our absoluete favorite!

I prefer the Mods because they're heavily themed; allow for bike riding; and permit parking close to your building.

I didn't worry about my kids roaming the resort alone -- there are no "outside" folks gaining access via the monorails wandering about or conventioneers (except for CSR) to be concerned about. :sunny:

We loved CBR, but money being tight, the values will just have to do. But thats ok, because we love them too. :earsboy:
