Hi -

Just curious what is the best way to get there from central NJ.

I am used to going to the MD/DC area via 95 however the directions from my house are routing me through PA (i'm about 30 miles from the border) on 78 through Harrisburg and York then on to Route 15.

Just wondering if that is the most direct route or if I should take 95 and then cut west. Thanks in advance for any travel tips!

I would go through Harrisburg as the directions say. It is a nice and easy road.

Where in NJ are you coming from?

I used to live in Frederick, and the preferred route we'd take up to Long Island and back was

From LI, we'd get to I 78 west to I 81 south. Just south of Harrisburg, we'd get on 581 and take 15 down. You could take I81 all the way to I 70 and across, but going onto 15 saves you a half hour. It has traffic lights through the first portion down, but once you get south of Dillsburg there aren't any.

However, if you're going to travel north on 95 for more than a half hour to get to I 78, the NJ Turnpike down to the Baltimore Beltway (695), then to 70 West.

I've been both ways many times and South on 95 was a bear on Sunday nights and Mondays of three day weekends, especially right around Exit 2 for the NJ Turnpike until after getting over the Delaware Memorial Bridge.

I lived in Western Maryland for the better part of 16 years and did the trip every 3 or 4 months-could almost put the car on autopilot!
