Inspired by the DVC Christmas Tree thread does anyone have any pics of Xmas lights displayed on their balcony at DVC?

This will be my first trip during Xmas and I want to put some on the balcony and was trying to get some hints on a good way to do it.

Thanks

I plan on brining a couple of strings of lights, wire ties (so no staples will be used on the installation) and an extension cord.

That is exactly our list of supplies. I think we used 4 or 6 strings of lights on our OKW balcony and my DGD just wrapped them around the rails and posts. We also have a crazy collapsible 6 foot tree that will be going with us for the living room. It all fits in a rolling duffle bag and the tree only takes a couple of minutes to set up. Will be getting there the 24th so will be busily stringing lights and putting the tree up that afternoon- should take about 20 minutes total and then off to the parks - that is if we can get into a room early - Hope you have a great trip.

Here are some of our decorations we had last Christmas for our SSR 1 bedroom.

From the outside...notice our DIS Santa Mickey in the windows...

From the inside at night...

Our minature tree...

And our stockings...okay, DH isn't a morning person

All of the decorations were inexpensive (Big Lots or Dollar store) so if I didn't have room for them when we came home then I could just leave them. They fit in a mens shoe box so they didn't take up much space to pack. I had the tree, tree skirt, lights (1 strand of 100 and 2 strands of 35), 2 extension cords, 3 stockings, a pkg. of 3M hangers (the kind that don't leave marks to hang the stockings), mini ornaments, the lime green foam DIS Santa Mickey heads, and vinyl clings for the sliding door.

Hope this helps!

Momsgoofy--how many strands of lights were used just around the doorway?

They look wonderful, BTW! Thanks for the pix! :thumbsup2

I think we had 5-6 strands of the little lights that we wrapped around the railing at OKW. We didn't get a picture last time, because our balcony faced an area that was inaccessible unless you were on the golf course. LOL, only the golfers got to see our decorations! (building 13)

We will be bringing lights again in December too. The nice thing at OKW is that there is an outlet right out there on the porch!

Just lovely momsgoofy. We plan on decorating our railing or balcony door for our early december trip. Is OKW the only resort that has an outlet right on the porch/balcony?

momsgoffy...thanks alot for the pictures I really enjoyed them and laughed at the picture of your husband. My husband asked what I was laughing about and showed him....have to get there around Christmas....it looks great. Those pictures my spur him on for a quick trip. carol :goodvibes

I used one strand of 100 lights and they went around the sliding door nicely.

Oh, I just realized I forgot to include the suction cup holders I bought at Walmart to hold them on the glass door...they were a dollar or two, but worked great. I really wanted to hang the lights from the railing, but if there was an outdoor outlet on the balcony, well, I never found it and I really didn't want to have the cord stuck in the sliding door for safety reasons.

And thanks...we really enjoyed coming home from the Carriage House area at night and seeing our lights.

Christmas at WDW was absolutely beautiful! :cheer2: We had a great time even with the larger crowds, but that is the glory of being DVC members...we're always going back so we don't have to do everything in one trip. We really enjoyed walking around the property at SSR...one night DH and DS, who are much more musical than I am, sang Christmas carols as we walked and another night it was just DH and I...kinda romantic just meandering and holding hands.

But, my poor DH is not a morning person especially without a cup of coffee...and the one in the photo was his first. LOL DS isn't a morning person either, so we are one of the weird families that doesn't get all fired up and go for morning EMH. I think at Christmas we never left the room before 9:30 except once for an early ADR that I insisted on.

If you can convince your DH for a holiday trip, I don' think he'd be disappointed. :thumbsup2

I think so...like I said in a previous post...if the balcony at SSR had an outside outlet, well, I couldn't find it. :confused3
