I bought one at a yard sale the other day it was new but didnt have the instructions. I printed them online but was wondering if anyone has any tips to using this.

I would love to be able to make some ice cream with my kids this week.

Thanks!

I don't have one, but my mother-in-law just got one for her birthday. I'm anxious to hear if she likes it and if the ice cream is as good as homemade made in electric machine w/ ice and rock salt. I'd love an easier way to make ice cream so I could do it more than once a year. You'll have to post what you think of yours.

I love mine and use it all the time. The biggest thing to remember......

the freezer canister has to be REALLY completely frozen. It says to freeze for at least 24 hours....triple that. It also helps to keep it in the furthest corner of the freezer.

It also helps if the liquids you are putting into the freezer canister are as cold as they can be. Again, refrigerate everything for at least an hour before putting into the canister.

I like the basic vanilla recipe that comes with the machine, as well as the peppermint stick, mango sorbet and strawberry sorbet. The basic vanilla does not use eggs and is very quick and easy to make.

I do NOT like the chocolate recipe that comes with the machine. I have had my best results using a high quality premade chocolate milk (the kind loaded with fat of course) cream and a bit of extra chocolate syrup added.

Good luck with your new machine!!! If you need recepies, as you don't have the instruction booklet, I can post some later.

First get the bowl good and frozen. I have the recipe that came with the machine.

Vanilla ice cream:
2 cups heavy cream, chilled
1 cup whole milk, chilled
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract

Place ingredients in a medium mixing bowl and combine until well blended. Pour into freezer bowl, turn the machine ON and let it mix until mixture thickens, about 20-25 minutes. If desired, transfer to an airtight container and place in freezer until firm, about 2 hours.

I LOVE my machine and you can order an extra bowl for it. My BIL made a ice cream recipe that called for eggs and to make a custard first and then pour in the machine his was so good. I think I will try that next time.

Orange sherbet:

2- 1/2 cups whole milk
3/4 cup frozen orange juice concentrate, thawed
2 Tablespoons of sugar

Combine all ingredients in a blender or food processor; process to combine about 15 seconds. Pour into freezer bowl, turn on and let mix for 25 minutes, freeze until firm.

Bought one for my mom 2 years ago for mothers day with the pineapple dole whip mix(she loooves them)and now we make it all the time.I ordered the mix online and it was a like a 5 pd bag.You just mix it with water and mix and it is so yummy. The machine is really easy to use just keep the bowl in the freezer always so it is ready to go when you want it.

We have one and DH used it a lot over the summer. The kids really like homemade ice cream.

I have had the machine for years.

As for the bowls: I hope you have at least two. Anyway, freeze at least 24 hours before using.

I do not have my recipe book with me, but the basic ice cream recipe is:

1 and 1/2 cups of milk (I use fat-free half and half to cut down on the fat).
1 cup of heavy whipping cream.
2 cups of sugar.
1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.

As I said, that is your basic recipe for the quart size frozen Cuisinart bowl.

Simply add what you want for flavoring:

vanilla ice cream: another tablespoon of vanilla extract plus about half a cup of liquid egg product.

Chocolate: I like to melt half a cup of Hershey's chocolate chips, then pour into the mixture before beginning the ice cream process.

Peaches: half of cup of peaches, added close to the end of the freezing.

Peppermint: grab a couple of small candy canes, grind up some, and toss in.

Oreo Cheesecake: four ounces of softened fat-free Philadelphea cheese, plus 8 oreo cookies, crumbled up. Add the cheese to the mixture before pouring into the freezing bowl; add the crumbled up oreo cookies when the ice cream is almost ready.

Again, the nice thing about the 'basic' recipe is that you can use your imagination.
