Does anyone have a Canon Rebel XS?

Hi:
Before Christmas, someone posted a great deal on this camera and I'm kicking myself for not buying it.

If you have it, do you love it? Does its size limit where you take it? For example, carrying it around Disney all day.

What lens is a must?

Please share if you find it at a great price!

I just purchased one on boxing day. Great deal. I am still learning to work with it but soo far I love it.

I got mine back in early November. I wish I would have bought it before our trip to Disney in September. The photo quality is fantastic. The colors are so rich. There is a learning curve to a DSLR so I am still figuring it out. I got a bundle pack with the camera and standard lens plus a 75-300mm lens, a dvd and large camera bag at Sam's Club for a great price. If you are planning to take night photos at Disney, I highly recommend a tripod. There is a great photography thread on dis. Check it out.

Yep, I got one, probably the same deal you saw, on Amazon, $409. My BIL was in for the holidays and has taken photography classes. He LOVED my Canon. I just sent these to my sister yesterday, checked the first one and the price was the same but I wouldn't wait. I have seen this site have good deals regularly though:

I got the 10.1MP. Being limited in that I need to learn how to use it, what I can do with it, I do LOVE it. DH got it for my Christmas present along with a Dummies book for the Canon EOS Rebel. It came with the 18-55 mm lens, we bought a 75-300 to go with it and we're planning to get another, I forget what he said it was, 55-200 or 250 maybe? But we figure it'll be about perfect for my normal use, I have a 10x optical zoom on my regular digital.
It is a bit bulky, much more so than I'm used to. I think if I were taking it to Disney, I'd get that mid range lens and take and use only that. We were just there early Dec and I saw people carrying these HUGE camera bags. I remember thinking "never, never". I'm not 100% sure I'd want to take my SLR to Disney because of the size, but I'm guessing when it came down to packing for a trip it'd go along :rolleyes1

We did take our Rebel to WDW and our photos are so beautiful! I wouldn't be able to go without it now because they just wouldn't look as good from other trips. ;)

It wasn't a big deal to mess with. We had four kids at the time and did take it in the camera bag. We only used a mid range lense and kept it fully assembled in the bag. When we were just walking around or riding rides we put the camera bag inside the backpack my husband wears. (That's how we travel at WDW, everything in one bag.) It couldn't have been too inconvenient because we took over 900 pictures and I don't remember my husband or I ever complaining about it. :thumbsup2

I was a little worried about something happening to it, but we made sure that replacing it was covered in our insurance.

ETA: we handed it to the photopass photographer every time he was taking pics of/for us and we didn't have to purchase one photo from our pass.

Disney#1Fan - We do belong to Sam's Club. I didn't think to look there. I'll check it out.

wtrmlnlabs -- that was the deal. Kick me, Kick me.

JoMommy -- What mid-range lens did you use? I don't want to carry more than one lens. I'm a beginner!

IDK names and numbers of the details, lol. I wanted to let you know I'll check with my husband and see what it is. It's basically the one lense we always use unless we need to photograph from a looong distance. I know it isn't very big and fits in our bag assembled. I can't even remember the last time we had it off of the camera. If you have a computer program like picasa or something similar that does good cropping, you really don't have to worry about the long range lenses. We crop everything in tight that we need/want to and the clarity of the pictures is still beautiful. Rebels really are GREAT cameras.

Thanks for checking!

I'm wondering if the 18/55 lens will be good enough for regular pictures at Disney!
