Does anyone else here DISLIKE gay day at Disneyland?

I've only been to "Gay Day" once at Disneyland, and said then that I woldn't do it again. My only problem with it (which I'm sure is nothing specific to Gay Day but could be said about any Saturday there just about) was that it was just too darned crowded. The lines were 1-2 hours for all the major attractions and it was difficult to even just walk from one part of the park to the other. It wasn't fun at all.

I do actually feel like sometimes Disneyland lets TOO many people in to the park. They say they close the front gates when the park reaches capacity (ala new years), but I have been there other times where we just had to leave because I didn't feel it was safe. In fact, on one occasion they actually had to open up a backstage area to let people through. It was really scary, because I knew that if someone tripped or fell over or something they would have been trampled. (I think this experience was around 1998 or so)

I've done my best to avoid Disneyland park on any Saturday.

Of course, this was quite a number of years ago (gosh I'm feeling old all of a sudden), so perhaps things are a bit more under control now... but what a way to spoil the magic.

Maybe someone that's been to Gay Day at Disneyland more recently can talk me down...

Yippee! Someone here on the boards who primarily goes to DL! I felt so alone.....

We've avoided Gay Days at DL for that very same reason. We hate big crowds and I KNOW that DL lets too many people in at times and they are totally over capacity. I've seen them shut the gates during the day, but I feel that they do it a little too late.

July 4th weekend last year was a nightmare. There were hours we just wandered around due to 2 hour waits for attractions, but even that was difficult. Parents and kids were grumpy, CM's were getting irritated even. At one point we just planted our butts down and people watched. It took us almost an hour to walk from the Castle, through main street and out the gates. An hour. We went last year for Christmas and it was the same situation during the Candle Light Processional. Maybe everyone wanted to see John Stamos. :lmao:

We're going in Sept for D23 Expo as well as DL and I'm afraid it's going to be busy the entire time. I know half the hotels in the area are already booked.

Wow. You managed to talk about your September trip and the D23 Expo WITHOUT rubbing it in about going to Club 33! I'm amazed! :rotfl2:

If crowds bother you I suggest staying far, far away from WDW's Magic Kingdom on Christmas day. :sad2: It was a unique experience and loverly, but it felt like being an M&M....in a large bag of M&Ms. (I couldn't think of another analogy.)

M&M.....Monorail Man? :)

It's funny that I hate crowds, yet I can handle going to DL.

Luckily, when the people start to take our magic away, throw it on the ground and stomp on it, we head over to DCA to relax since there is usually about 10 people over there. :lmao:

10 people?

That WAS a crowded day at DCA! :rotfl2:

I'm not sure about Gay Day at Disneyland, but Gay Day at the Magic Kingdom get's crowded, but I've never found it opressively croweded on Gay Day. Of course that may be because we're too busy enjoying the energy the crowd on Gay Day has. Plus it's some of the best people watching all year long.

It's seriously a ghost town at times, or at least certain parts. Soarin' or Grrr!, TOT can be packed, but other areas are empty. ELP and Pixar Parade have helped and all the construction/improvements they're doing will help tremendously.

I think the only time of year that DCA gets packed is during Gay Days on Sunday.

My sister and I hit Animal Kingdom on Christmas Day when we were there... it was absolutely the right park to visit. They didn't really have anything "special" going on for Christmas (other than decorations) so the crowds were totally manageable. I've got some great video from that day!

I know nothing about Gay Days nor Disneyland, but maybe it's more crowded because there are less parks? At least at WDW, you have 4 different parks, plus DTD and the 2 water parks. Having the ability to be somewhere else, other than with the crowds, is probably what makes WDW bearable. :confused3
