After tossing out a bunch of old stuff from last year's baskets, I just restocked the cupboard with a bunch of little jars etc. from this year's baskets. I put them in the front and figured out some ways I can use them, so hopefully I'll do better this year.

Am I the only one that has trouble using some of this stuff? It is not stuff I would ever buy. I tried to figure out ways to use it before I put it away, so hopefully I'll do better this year. The food bank is going to wonder why I'm donating "apple onion relish (with fennel)", but I couldn't even see putting it in my cupboard because I know it won't get used and I'd end out tossing it next year.

I guess I'm just not very gourmet and people either think I am or should be! I think that stuff looks great in the store, but wonder if people really use it?

in this house 90% of that kind of stuff gets tossed or passed on to friends that like it. I will buy myself a hickory farms gift set at times and eat beef stick and cheeses, the mustard usually gets passed on to friends b/c mustard isn't used by people in this house.
I have received and used knots jelly/jam sets.

I love that kind of stuff! :cool1: You're lucky if it lasts a week in this house!

We have problems using all that stuff too. Beef sticks, cheeses, jams, cookies, crackers and basics get eaten. But the different things or specialty items just sit around for a long long time. We do try to pass along things we know we wont use, but most wont take "jalapeno jelly".

The apple onion relish sounds yummy. I'll bet it would be good on a chicken or turkey sandwich. We tend to pass on things we can't eat, like hot and spicy items or items with the herbs savory, cilantro or coriander to which we have a bad allergic reaction.

That is the biggest problem I have with most gift baskets you can buy. Most of it is odd stuff.

Most of the gift baskets I get are Bath Items, so eating them wouldn't be too appealing. :) I hate breaking into them because they're so pretty.

DH's family loves baskets, so I have bath items too. I have a collection of pumice stones and buffs to last me a lifetime but anything that smells gets given away immediately due to my fragrance allergies.

Ya eat a couple things and throw the rest away

We got one last year for Christmas from my stepson and most of the stuff is still in the cupboard. I just hate to see money wasted that way, because the baskets you order from websites have really strange stuff in them. This came from a wine site and he was upset because they couldn't ship wine to us, I had to remind him that we don't drink wine.

This year they sent us Omaha Steaks, they arrived the day after we left to pick up our new Corvette, which he knew about. Thank goodness we had arranged for someone to pick up our packages, something we seldom do.
