Does anyone else get a little embarrased by VMK?

Don't let the title mislead you, I'm a very proud VMKer, but sometimes people do just not 'get' it and think it's a silly joke.
I pressed Start infront of half a dozen people and under my recently opened programs was:
VMK Pal
Yeti Vision
and worst of all, with it's corny icon,
Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters Online.
They naturally jumped to varying conclusions of: 'it must be a joke, he does have a warped sense of humour' or 'we all have our hobbies, and he does have a warped sense of everything' and probably even 'MUST HIDE THE CHILDREN!!'

It would of been mostly the third option if they didn't know I was a Disney nut, but never-the-less, it made me blush.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Eh, I'm used to it. I've been obsessed with Disney for so many years and everyone knows it. Disney surrounds me. So there isn't anything Disney related that I could have around that would shock anyone. And if they don't 'get it', that's their problem. They don't know what they're missing! :)

If anyone at the school found out about my playing vmk (or even just love for Disney)...I would be done for! lol Disney is considered very childish in the eyes of my peers and there have been a few moments of which I have blushed  lol.

They are the people who are a in a few of my classes at a time that make things embarrassing. lol. The people who constantly see my Disney-themed papers and assignments rofl. :rolleyes1

GOODNESS NO! I tell all my friends and have even gotten one or two to join up!!

My Dh used to tease me about it in front of our friends. I always proudly state that it's Disney, who doesn't love Disney? He quit teasing me when he realized that all our friends love Disney, even if they don't play VMK :)

I dont think it so much the game itself... but rather

a) The time I spend on it...
- free time = vmk time = a lot of vmk time = a lot of free time = why clean/cook/do laundry/eat/sleep/"peep" when you can play?!

b) The fact that Irishhockey has quite the figure...
- Im sorry but those are not character shapes meant for a disney online game for 8-13yos... and yes... there is a little bit of jealousy here...

c) I have managed to recieve several bans and even more warnings...
- Thats right folks, I choose to rebel in the virtual world rather then real one. It's awesome when a buddy asks "what'd ya end up doin last night?"... my response? "Ah you know, got myself a nice ban from this online disney game site meant for 8-13yos...".... his response? "Again?"

hmm i must say that at first it might have been a bit of an issue but now psh i really dont care what ppl think of my fascination, i say its all good !!

Good question! I for one would be totally embarressed if any of my real life friends knew that I play VMK!

Sometimes I take my laptop to Panera Bread for lunch and endure the weird stares from people as I sit there by myself playing VMK, but at least they're strangers - I'll never see them again so I really don't care...

Boom is that the reason you are always hiding behind a tree or a lamp post on VMK!!! Are you afraid one of our screen shots will make it on a Bill Board for everyone to see??? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

No embarrassment here :) Everyone who knows me (both personally and professionally) knows of my obsession w/ all things Mouse related. They rarely ask "where I'm going" on a weekend it's usually "Which park are you going to?" My friends have commented that my house looks like a Disney store (probably the results of having worked at one for so very long) and I couldn't be happier of that fact :)

VMK? Just another in a long string of Disney things I do. Now I can combine my love of gaming (I've done that for about 18 years online) with Disney. It doesn't get any better.

Besides, everyone knows that the 'young at heart' live way longer than the other half ;)

I got embarrased when i had so many people in my room and i was talking to my friend sayong this person likes my inferno offer and evryone else heard then the person came in and said sorry i just got a better offer everyone laughed and said better luck next time captain

I am not embarassed by it at all. I am at the age where I am comfortable with who I am and playing the game is just part of it. I always loved video games and even as an adult I had them. You never saw someone as excited as I was when I got the new Gameboy for Christmas but sorry to say, it doesn't get any time since I found VMK.

My husband doesn't really understand as much as he respects what I do because he loves to fish and I just don't get that at ALL ewwwwwww!

Some people don't get the Disney thing. They don't get why I like to visit several times a year and choose an active vacation over one where you sit under a palm tree.

They don't have to get it, just as long as I do :teeth: !

Huh? What is this "VMK" you are all talking about? Me? Play it? Yeah right...

Was that convincing? I just can't wait till my daughters get older and I can blame it on them...

yeah,

All my friends think I am crazy for liking disney. My nickname is "disney know it all". They think VMK is crazy (none of them have played it) and think I am crazy along with it. I dont get embarressed by it, bc I am proud of what I am

LOL

Me when I hear someone is going to Disney- my first question is... "Will you do me a favor?"

I actually have a friend that is going with their sons school band and has agreed to a stop in VMK Central for me...

And I have nieces who are taking their separate Senior Trips to WDW and will also get quests for me then-

When I ask one of my kids usually pipes up with- "oh VMK- that is the Disney game mom and dad are addicted to"

Personally, I have no embarassment whatsoever. I grew up letting people know how much I love WDW. I didn't even get into the Disney movies until after I went to college. Then I became nuts about them. And had no embarassment then. Lots of my college friends and dorm mates also loved the movies.
I've also been crazy about classic movies and musicals since I was a child.
I believe that there is something Disney for everyone. Walt didn't start out by targeting only children. His target audience was the entire family.
So, my love of VMK and all things Disney is nothing for me to be ashamed about. Or for anyone else either.

I'd always be open and honest about what I like to people. Yes, family and friends may tease you some, but they still care about you. If people decide to not like because of your love of Disney, then show them things that you think they might like. My ex-fiance decided years ago to not like Disney. "It's for kids" was his attitude. Then he came in during the middle of a live action Disney movie I was watching. He really liked it a lot and didn't realize it was Disney until I told him it was. I also showed him some stuff about WDW (coasters mainly) that he really liked. He decided that Disney wasn't so bad. :)
If they don't want to listen, then too bad for them. They don't know what they're missing. :thumbsup2
