Does anyone care about the products they produce anymore?

Maybe its just me having a string of bad luck lately, but nobody (companies)seems to care about anything except making money for themselves lately. We ordered new bedding...the comforter came stained cuz it was sitting out in the rain and not packaged properly. Our 5 yr old dryer was 2 sec away from burning the house down. We order new washer/dryer to be delivered today...BRAND NEW washer came not functioning properly, have to wait til tomorrow for a new one again. Its ridiculous. And you can't call to complain to anyone, cuz it takes 4 transfers, and no one calls you back. Sorry, had to vent. Is anyone else sick of people not caring about what they produce?

I'm with you! I say all the time that it's like everything is disposable anymore. Everything is made like crap because, let's face it, people just want the latest and greatest and stuff gets replaced whether it's broken or not.

I'm on my 3rd pair of headphones since getting my MP3 player in December. I figure that thing has maybe another year on it :confused3

Meanwhile, we have a TV (ugly as sin) in our family room that is 30 years old.

Is the problem manufactures, or consumers who only want to get the cheapest possible price and aren't willing to pay more for good service or companies that stand behind their poducts?

The second part. The folks who shopped around and purchased the chepaest model or act surprised when somehting they bought at Wal-Mart doesn't last.

I completely disagree with this. Our dryer that almost burned the house down, was the top model, most expensive set of Kenmore Calypso washer/dryer from 5 years ago. The new one, is the Whirlpool duet, one of the top rated in consumer reports.

Our bedding, which came packed improperly was Calvin Klein from Macys.

If I payed bottom dollar for something, thats the quality I would expect. That, in fact, is part of my complaint...these are not cheap, low quality items we're purchasing, and I expect them to at least function properly.

If you've managed to find companies that do back their products, and have had no issues with anything, then you're extremely lucky.

And that brand new washer, is probley made by a company that used to be in the USA but has moved out. Sold for the same price to you as before (if not more but only costs 1/2 the $ to make now) is only going to last 5 years again!

Then I am hoping that those of us in the USA with jobs that deal with manufactoring still have jobs to buy another crappy washer in 5 years. (or fridge, toaster, radio, etc)

We just got new Duet washer and dryer. What was wrong with yours. Ours the delivery guys removed the protective packaging at the store and banged the back left corner. That shoved the controls forward. (It did was and we did use it.) I showed it to them when they installed it. They tried to get me to accept it at a small discount. NO WAY. I got a new one the next week.

Actually the new Duets are made in the USA. This is one of the reasons we bought it. We refused to by the LG that was made in South Korea. They kept pushing the LG, so the money they made from the sale of it must have been higher.

The washer, where the hose hooks to it, was leaking, so that water would spray all over and not into the washer. They tried a few different hoses, didn't work, said it was on the washer. They said they could have repair person come out. I was like, um, no. Its brand new. New one is coming tomorrow. Just a hassle though.

I work for an American manufacturer that produces their product in numerous countries around the world (as well as in the US), so the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Oh, and yes, quality is important to us -- if our product doesn't perform well, it doesn't sell. :)
