Hi all ! Just curious - we are disney vets but have never done HDDR - traveling with my DD12 and DS8 - remember going to Trails end a few years back and loved it but was a bit of a pain getting there -

Thinking of HDDR for our July trip but only thing stopping me from booking is the travel - staying at POP - won't be a park day for us- so I guess would head there from MK ?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated ! TIA !

We stay at Pop and go to MK (if we aren’t already at MK) and take the boat. It is right off the boat dock at the Fort. The only thing now is you have to go through security after getting off the bus to get to the boat since the boats are now in secure zone. Also when you leave the hoop you have to go through security to get on the boats. So that is a bit of a pain. We took Minnie Van from hoop to Pop last summer. We find it worth it though because we really enjoy the dinner show.

Turn the travel into an adventure!

Bus to MK, boat to FW, see the horses, maybe do a wagon ride or some horseback riding, visit the playground.

After the show either boat MK or boat to Contemporary (great arcade) then monorail to MK if you want a monorail ride then bus back.

Of course, a MinnieVan will also work and drop you close to Pioneer Hall.

We went 6-7 years ago. It was a great experience but getting there was a huge hassle because it happen to be downpouring that evening. We drove, then took the bus and then waited in a long line to get in. My memory of it was being nothing but a huge PITA. The show was worth it, a lot of fun but it was a one and done for us.

I agree with Gussie. We did it once. We arrived really early and stood under an overhang to avoid the heavy rain. No wandering around the resort for us. The show was great, but since that trip, we only go to restaurants/shows that are in the park we're visiting or the resort we're staying at. We might stray if it is easy...for example, we went to GF cafe while staying at Poly.

We had this same exact thing happen, down pour and all, trying to get to Mickey's Backyard BBQ. (RIP.) The show was a lot of fun, but getting there was a nightmare.

If your at any park or DS, you can take a bus to WL, then boat over. After the latest show of the evening, they often have busses to take you back to your resort.

That’s a big reason why we haven’t done it yet. I typically schedule it for our break day, but always decide to cancel it because of the stress. Some day.

Thanks ! Was considering the Minnie van or Uber ( if it can get us close enough)

Yep ! Glad to know we are not alone ! Same for trails end for us - loved the food, but wouldn't trek it there again !

if you UBER you will have to take internal bus to HDDR and back to get UBER back to resort as Minnie Vans are cars able to load/unload at HDDR. in a downpour any transportation is going to have you soaked plus no where to wait it out

I love the ride over. Any chance to take a relaxing boat ride somewhere is perfect for me. You can go from the MK easily. You dont need to go into the park. You can also take the resort monorail to the Contemporary and take the smaller ferry, behind the pool area, over to Ft Wilderness.

Well...
Isn't it the longest running dinner show in the US? It's not like they are missing customers.
It's actually very easy to get to from MK, and although I was thinking the return to our resort would suck, they had buses waiting for us that were set up to take any guest back to their resort. I like HDDR for an MK + Early to bed day. Way too much fried chicken and cornbread, a few yunglings, and way too much strawberry shortcake = early snoring = easy rope drop.

We only do HDDR if we are staying at WL or CR. Otherwise, there are plenty of other great restaurants in WDW that don't require so much transportation time. Maybe consider Raglan Road instead? Not a dinner show, but the dancing is fun!

SUPER easy to get there from MK. The boat ride is really pleasant and drops you right near the hall. There's a playground on the right side as you're walking toward the hall that makes a great energy-burn for kids before the show!

Your kids are old enough not to need car seats so I would Uber it. Super easy.

but with using Uber they will have to use the internal bus as other than Minnie Vans no car stopping/parking and that includes handicapped

Exactly what DD said :))
