Does anyone actually WALK from the epcot resorts to Epcot and MGM? I MIGHT walk from BC to Epcot but everything else seems quite far. I know people list the proximity to Epcot and MGM as a big plus from resorts like BC/YC, Boardwalk and S/D, but it seems to me that if you are taking the water taxi that it wouldn't save you a significant amount of time over commuting from one of the MK resorts. (Same would be true in the reverse, in my opinion). Has anyone done a time comparison?

We usually stay at BWV (our home resort with DVC). We almost always walk to Epcot and MGM. We'll occasionally take one of the boats back to Boardwalk when we come back from Epcot. Usually, we actually walk thru Epcot and out the front entrance to catch the monorail to go to Magic Kingdom.

We walk to & from Epcot from Swan, Dolphin & Beach (have never stayed at either BW or Yacht). We walked to MGM once from the Swan, but it is a bit far on top of a days walking.
I think the Friendships are faster to get to Epcot & MGM than it would be to bus in from a non-Epcot area resort, although I have never timed any mode of transportation while in WDW.

I really enjoy the walk around Crescent Lake - It's just such a beautiful area. To me, it's part of the whole experience. Just like I love the travel across the Seven Seas Lagoon & Bay Lake when I am staying at the MK resorts. We actually have video of the walk from Beach Club to International Gateway, we enjoy it so much.

We stayed at BWI in July and walked to Epcot every time. We also walked to MGM - but took the boat back. It's MUCH quicker to walk seems like...

Last week we stayed for 3 nights at the BWV and then 4 nights at the POLY...we walked to Epcot from the BWV everyday...took about 5-10 min tops...very easy walk...I would not walk to MGM tho...too far, esp in the heat...we walk to the Swan/Dolphin which takes about 5 min and then take the water taxi as it is the last stop before MGM...

as far as the Poly, it is very convenient to the MK, and that's about it...it seemed like everything else took forever, esp DTD...this was our first trip using disney transportation entirely, and I think that I will rent a car next time just to get to DTD each time...

depending on how long we waited for a bus (say 10 min avg), it took us a good 45 min to get to PI...when going to DTD, they take a back route, with the Marketplace being the first stop at DTD, and PI second...I am not exagerating when I say it took at least 45 min each time we went to PI...sometimes longer...

to me that is too much time...when you're scheduling a day where the theme park hours are already shortened, 2-3 hours a day of travel time in disney transportation is too much for me...

We love staying at BC and have stayed at YC and BWV. All are close enough to Epcot that it is a quick and pleasant walk in my opinion. I would have to say that walking to Epcot is much quicker than taking a water taxi, unless you get lucky and you catch one just about to leave. Even then, it is about the same amount of time. We also walked to MGM from our room at BWV and beat the water taxi by about 10 mins., if you can believe that! It's quite a hike over to MGM from BC and YC, but if you don't mind the walk, it's still faster than taking a bus from other resorts. Plus, you have the freedom of leaving whenever you want and you know how long it will take you to get there. The buses and water taxis are iffy. At the end of the day, you also don't have to worry about the fighting the crowds out. You can just take a leisurely stroll to your room. Nothing beats strolling through an empty WorldCase at the end of the night. It's so quiet and beautiful!

Walking is the best way to get back to the Boardwalk after Fantasmic at the Studios :)

From some areas of the Beach Club it is actually quicker to walk to Epcot than it is to walk to the boat dock that takes you to Epcot. Literally it is a 5 minute walk. As far as MGM goes from Beach Club it can be quicker to walk than take the boat because the boat moves slow and stops at Swan and Dolphin. Walking is around 20 minutes and taking the boat can be 20 - 30 minutes depending on how long it stops at the docks. So it really depends on the weather, if it is really hot or rainy, take the boat.

We always walk from Epcot, get back home faster then the boat. We have stayed at the YC and BWI.:D Good to walk a bit if you can to get the extra calories off that you consumer around the world. :D

We stay at the BWI. We usually walk to and from Epcot and sometimes we walk to MGM. If the boat is not at or close to the dock when we are leaving MGM we usually walk back. Unless we are super tired. We even will walk to and through Epcot to get to the MK. Its just easier then dealing with the bus.

We always walk from Boardwalk/Dolphin/Yacht Club..it is a quick, easy walk. We love the convenience.

I always walk to epcot and mgm from the epcot resorts. I find that it's a lot faster to walk, especially after the parks let out for Illuminations and fantasmic. I also feel less guilty about eating all those treats if I get some extra excersise in :earboy2:

We always walk to Epcot and usually take the boat to MGM. Unless we just missed the boat, then we will walk to MGM. Not a bad walk at all.

We walked to Epcot from the Swan because the boat made so many stops and walking was faster.

We have also stayed at the BWI, YC and the Swan and we have walked to EPCOT. The only time I remember catching a boat was when it happened to be pulling in when we were walking out the door on the way to EPCOT. We usually take the boat to MGM and just like Lexxiefern we take it back, unless we miss it.

I can walk faster then the friendship boat. So we walk.

Just got home from our first stay in an Epcot resort, the YC. Unfortunately we had to cut our trip short due to Frances, but I did manage to get in a before-sunrise walk by myself around Crescent Lake and was amazed what an easy walk it was to the World Showcase entrance to Epcot. When we go back (to complete our stay ;) we will definately walk there. I was so sad we missed it!!! (But obviously happy we were safe...)

at BWI, BWV, YC, BC, Swan or Dolphin... we always walk to EPCOT and MGM. We always feel we can eat more and feel better about ourselves when we walk everywhere.

When we stay at CR we always walk to MK too! :):wave2:

We always walk to Epcot. We usually take the boat to MGM, but we walk home if we're leaving at park closing or after Fantasmic when the boat would be crowded. We have walked to MGM, but usually choose to save our feet. A couple times we've taken the boat from Epcot b/c it happened to be sitting there when we came by.

Perhaps the Epcot resorts just attract walkers! ;) Serioulsy, though, walking from Epcot is easy and pleasant. Haven't tried it to MGM, it seems more formidable. Next time I'll give it a try!
