Just thought I'd put this out there for opinion. I'm not talking about in the patrons space but, close enough to watch their win! :)

I've got to think about this one. I have some serious issues with personal space and have told people to get out of mine a lot in life - including in ques at WDW. If they're out of your personal space though, I'm not sure you can demand a non-audience, but I'm kinda for it if that could throw off your gambling. I gamble so little, it'd be really boring to watch me play craps for half an hour (when I get bored with it) and then to play $.25 video poker!

I think you have the right to ask someone not to be in your personal space but I don't think you can police who stops behind you to watch. If a person comes who makes me uncomfortable, hangs on my chair, or even touches the machine (it happened once) then I speak up but just standing behind and more then arms length watching and I just deal if I want to play that machine.

You can ask someone not to invade your space but technically, no, it's not a right. It's a public space and an observational past time. When someone is winning or playing high stakes it's pretty common to have a group of people standing around watching.

I'd say no. But it depends on whether or not the person is being disturbed in any way. I've gotten curious when I've seen someone at a slot machine with one of those bonus round deals, and just stood about five feet back out of curiosity. I didn't bother anyone, but if I got too close I think I might have.

Right to ask someone to not stand over your shoulder? Sure, you can always ask.

Right to tell someone not to stand somewhere? No, sorry.

Well I'll disagree somewhat. I absolutely do have the right to tell someone not to stand in my personal space. But they also have the right to tell me to go to hell.

True - but I think that now you're just arguing semantics.

Please understand I was not meaning just over their shoulder which I would deem their personal space. I mean further back on the gaming floor.

Game on! :)

From a different perspective I stop behind people in casinos simply due to the fact I don't gamble. The couple of times I have been I'm simply trying to figure out how to play.

Tough call. I'd probably give them the stink eye but not say anything. I don't think you (general you) can police where anyone stands

Well - not that I employ it, but standing behind blackjack tables was a strategy employed by many card counters. There were a variety of ways it was done, but the gist is to go to a table where there's a high proportion of tens/aces. It's supposed to increase the chance that the dealer busts, as well as the chances of blackjack that pays 3:2. At a certain point there's actually a positive average payout. Some worked in teams where someone would just play minimum bets and then discreetly signal to someone to come to the table and play big. There was one guy infamous for standing behind tables and counting. Then he'd join in if the deck was advantageous. His technique is a reason why lots of single/double deck blackjack tables don't allow a new player in the middle of a deck, although one could theoretically play small and then bet big. However, that attracts attention from the pit boss.

You can ask someone to move, but that doesn't mean that they necessarily will comply.

Now, if someone is close enough I can feel them breathe on my neck, hop off me. But other then that no.

If someone is so close that I can feel their breathing on my neck, they're too close.

Otherwise, it wouldn't bother me.
