I received a summons for Jury Duty last Wednesday.

I was to appear on Tuesday, Sept 6th.

I was planning to leave for Disney World on Monday, Sept 5th.

On Thursday, I got in touch with the Judge and asked to be excused. I had to fax a copy of my reservations (which were made through the DVC and didn't have MY name anywhere on them).

I called Every Work Day asking if my excuse had been approved, but was put off Every Work Day. I was starting to get really nervous.

Finally, today I called and was told that I was excused.

Whew! :duck:

Now, I'm really ready for some Disney Magic!!!!

Not sure where you are, but for us in Chicagoland (Cook County), calling for a 3-month extension is auto approved over the phone. Missing duty outright (because you "didn't" receive your summons cough cough) just results in a second summons being sent for another date.

In our county in ny we can get a one time postponement and may request a specific week up to 6 months out.

This is my first time ever asking to be excused from jury duty.

I'm in a rural town and am not called very often. However, the few times I have been called, the case has been dismissed before jury selection ever got started. I'm sure that is exactly what would have happened this time and I would have ended up missing my first two days of vacation for nothing.

However, if I'm asked again, I'll be there... unless I have another Disney trip planned. ;)

I'm going to WDW with my mom and my my 2 kids on Sunday for 11 days. My mom was summonds for jury duty on the 6th as well. She sent them our reservation, etc and they let her off from having to do it next week. But then she said she has to do it in October, so she didnt get out of it completely but at least she did for our trip. PHEW!

Must be that time of year... Two of my coworkers are currently serving jury duty and I have a summons for next Wednesday, September 7. Where we live service is one day or the length of one trial. We leave for WDW on the 17th so I should be OK.

One time I was summonsed for jury duty and was selected to be interviewed for jury. The judge came in where all the potential jurors were and asked each of us if there was a reason or obligation preventing us from serving on the jury. The woman in front of me had her arm in a sling and explained she recently had shoulder surgery and had to go to regular physical therapy. The judge actually said it was not a valid excuse and told her she had to stay! Then he got to me and the first thing I could think of was that I had non-refundable vacation planned, so I said that, and low and behold - I was excused! I don't know if the judge didn't want the courts to have to pay for my vacation or what, but it worked!

My worst fear is being summoned for jury duty the week I'm supposed to go to WDW. I fear that out of all the people in my city I get picked THAT week. I wish Publisher's Clearinghouse could find me like that. Wouldn't mind actually serving, though. Last time my number didn't get called but I was still on standby and had to call in everyday that week. That was January 2002. How often does one get called for this duty? I was summoned only once so far.

I'm on call for federal jury duty for the entire month of Sept. I also have a Disney trip planned beginning the tenth. I received an excuse for the days of my trip only. I have to call every night before my trip and then every night after my trip to see if I have to report.

Good for you, OP!

I also got called for the middle of our vacation. What was so ridiculous about it was that I was originally was schedule for January 2011 but I requested postponement due to having such a young baby that I was nursing, and got a dr's note to that effect. They re-sceduled me for August 2011. DH requested off work to care for our kids and everything. But then a few weeks before I get a note with the Sept date over our disney vacay! I was so mad, and nervous because I had already requested one postponement. I sent in a copy of my flight reservation and they moved me to October. Whew!

Wonderful! Have a glorious trip, enjoy the low crowd levels and stay COOL. :goodvibes

I was called for duty on a Monday and we were leaving for vacation on Friday. I was selected for the pool and the attorney began questioning the jurors about all the usual stuff. ,and then asked if anyone had a problem serving for a week . I raised my hand and gave my reason. The prosecutor wanted to excuse me but the judge said NO! The judge called me up before her and asked if I could serve if she "promised" to get me on my way by Thursday. I said yes and it didn't look good but after lunch on Thurs. --The case went to jury and we rendered verdict and got out of there!!! Vacation Saved!!

Before I was diagnosed with crohns disease but severely symptomatic I was called in for jury duty. I asked for a postponment which I got but then 3 months later I was called again. I decided to try my luck at pulling for a dismissal under the grounds which was not making enough money. It worked and I got dismissed which helped a lot(I doubt I could sit through an 8 hour day being as severe as I was)

Both my Mom and I get called once a year or so for jury duty.... and no one else in my family does.... weird.... my Brother calls it a suckers list!:rotfl:

Got the notice for Grand Jury 10 Wednesdays beginning March 6 had a lot going on (had a vacation scheduled, dad was sick, just started a new job,) wrote and got out of it in March, they rescheduled me for Oct.4 only Petit one time or one trial, three days before we leave for the World.

Hoping and praying that I don't get picked, otherwise I will have to Skype in from POFQ :surfweb:

We tend to travel somewhere every six months - I recieved a jury summons during the time frame of both trips last year. I sent a copy of my air reservation and a wide range of dates that I could be available. No problem. Recieved a third summons during an available time, took the day off to serve and was excused.
