Do your little ones sleep in the stroller?

Well, we leave in less than 3 weeks now and I'm getting very nervous about 18-month old ds! He has never been one to sleep in the car or stroller. On MK and Epcot days, we plan to go back to the room for an afternoon nap for him, but when we go to AK and MGM we really don't want to miss the parades so we don't think we'll have time to go back for a nap.

I was really hoping we would be able to get him to sleep in the stroller, but this would not be the norm for him! I'm hoping maybe he'll be so tired out from all the sights and sounds that he'll just conk out . . . wishful thinking, huh?!?!

So for those of you who have "high needs" babies that are always on the go and don't settle unless they are in their own crib, how did they handle WDW?

Oh yes he did. DS was 20-months when we went. We too thought to go back to the room for nap time. Never happend. DS was so wiped out from everything that he slept soundly relcined is his stroller several times a day. One night DH & I stayed the extended hours and DS slept like a log, even when when we went to the Test Track. The cars zooming by sound like thunder and my child didn't even flinch. WDW is a magical sleep remedy. :cloud9:

Well...not the answer you probably want to hear, but my DS fell asleep at WDW in the stroller at 9 months, 12 months, and 16 months every day with no problems at all...but on our trip at 19 months he fell asleep just once. He does still fall asleep in the car at two but stroller naps seem to be a thing of the past for us...I think he just started becoming that much more aware of his surroundings and didn't want to miss anything. FWIW he did skip naps twice on our last trip at 19 months and we just made sure we shot for an earlier bedtime and we didn't have problems. On the days we knew we'd be out later we made sure we went back to our room for a nap.

HTH!

I'm wondering if your stroller is not very comfortable.
I had a girlfriend who complained that her DD never slept in their stroller.
Well, her only stroller was an umbrella stroller.
Those could not possibly be comfortable.

She bought a different one sometime later & yes, her DD did sometimes nap in that one.

Well, my twin DD's are just like your son! They don't ever fall asleep in the car, and if they are in the stroller they think it's because there are things for them to notice and look at.

EXCEPT AT DISNEY WORLD!

We had had every intention of going back to our room for naps, and not one day did that happen. When my girls were tired, they just fell asleep in the stroller. I was shocked, amazed, and to be honest, thought that they must be getting sick! :) My little ladies just went and went, and when they were tired they fell asleep. We have a ton of pictures of them sleeping in their stroller, because we just couldn't believe they were SLEEPING IN THE STROLLER.

By the way, my son was the exact same way. He was not one to sleep anywhere other than his crib, and when we took him to Disney - OUT LIKE A LIGHT.

My DH and I just chalked it up to the Disney Magic!

Good luck!

I had the opposite experience than many of the previous posters. When I took my younger daugther to Disney for the first time, she was 13 months old. She was taking one afternoon nap a day at home. She rarely slept in the stroller (although it was very comfy and reclined), so we planned to take her back to the room daily for a nap.

Well, we found that she wouldn't nap anywhere!! She was just too excited about being in such a visually exciting place, I think. She didn't want to miss anything. ;) She wouldn't go to sleep back in the room and she wouldn't sleep in her stroller. Because she was only a year old, she did eventually succumb though. After 4 or 5 days, she fell asleep in the stroller. I do have to say that she was never grumpy though. She did really well. Oh, and this has been her pattern during our next two trips as well. Eventually, she does fall asleep in her stroller, but it takes days!

My two little ones don't even like to ride in a stroller...except at WDW. They also don't nap...except in the stroller at WDW. It's no wonder we make so many trips to the World. :woohoo:

Our DD3 and DS1 both sleep in their strollers. I agree with the PP that you need to make it as cozy as possible.

We have a double stroller, but find that the front seat doesn't recline nearly far enough for a good sleep, so we take two single strollers so that both our son and daughter can sleep comfortably.

One of our single strollers actually reclines more than the other, so we've already discussed the fact that DS will probably spend more time in that stroller (DD is a little older and will be going on more rides).

I think if kids get tired enough, they will sleep. Good luck!

I just got back 2 days ago with our 19mo old. She sleeps beautifully at home, and hates to sleep anywhere else! I was really nervous how she would do. We did some park hopping, and spent a lot of time in the parks. A couple of days she dosed off here or there for a bit, a couple of days she napped an hour in her stroller, and then a couple of days she didn't nap at all. As long as she didn't get too hungry she was fine. There was one major tantrum she threw at Epcot over not sharing but that was it. Good Luck!

We have gone with progressively more and more comfy strollers...so I think sometimes it is just the kid :)

(Our stroller line-up: at 9 months - Maclaren Triumph, at 12 months - Safety 1st Alumilite, at 16 months and at 19 months - Peg Perego P3)

We had the same concerns when we took DS 17mo in Dec. He'll sleep in any crib or pack'n'play, but I can count on one hand the number of times he's fallen asleep in a stroller. (He'll sleep occasionally in the carseat, but not often.) Unfortunately, he continued his pattern at WDW for the most part. He took two naps in the stroller; the first one was at Epcot on our first day after he'd been up for about 12 hours (our room wasn't ready yet, so we couldn't go to the resort for a nap), and the second was on our third day - he slept for about an hour as we walked around at Ft. Wilderness. Other than that, no matter what quiet part of the park we took him to, he refused to sleep. We ended up spending a lot more time in the room than I'd hoped ...we're hoping his pattern will be a little different on our next trip, when he's 23 mos. Hope you have better luck than we did!
