Do your kids have a tv in their room?

I didn't get my own tv (a 13" black and white!) until I was a sr. in HS in 1980. No cable. The oldest thinks she is the only 6th grader without her own TV, but she has a castoff laptop from dad's office (no internet, only for homework) and so does DD#2.
I like to monitor what they watch. In fact, I have all 3 of the MTV channels and BET blocked from our cable. My students think I'm the meanest mom around (one girl even said "I've been watching MTV since I was 6") but my kids have never been allowed to watch and don't miss it. Robin M.

LOL. I had this tiny black and white tv in college. I'll never forget when I moved home after graduating that I was now an adult and I had my own money so I could go out a buy my own color tv set if I wanted to!

And my 13, 11, and 10 year olds don't get to see MTV either. I'll let them stop at a good video if we're channel surfing but that's about it. Though we did watch Made and Rich Girls for a bit. Made was a great show. I can't believe some of the things my friend lets her 13 yo watch. I just can't believe some of the things MTV shows!

My boys have TV's in their room. They sleep 2 in a room. They are 13 & 12 in one room, and 7 & 10 in one room. They mostly use the TV for playing video games.

Nope! My kids don't have a TV in their rooms, but my son does have a computer in his (no Internet though)

We only have one TV in the house as well.

I didnt' get my own TV until I was about 16/17 years old. (back in 1986/87) then it was a 10-13" color with no remote. It only did a few channels, and it was fine. I hardly watched it, except for maybe Friday night videos, and Saturday NIght Live.

We also have only one TV, in the family room. We also only have basic cable (local channels only). I never had a TV in my room and my mom didn't even get cable until after I left for college! (in 1987) My dh didn't have a TV in his room until he saved his own money to buy one in his later teens. We canceled cable because we thought our 5 year old was just seeing too much that she wasn't mature enough for. Personally, I think the shows they show on Disney and Nick in the afternoons are inappropriate for most kids under 12 (at least!). I don't anticipate giving into my kids' demands for a TV for a long, long time. Of course, they are only 5 and 2 now so we'll see!

Yes, and their ages are 7 and 11. They both have cable TV in their rooms and they are allowed to watch it before going to bed. They are both doing very well in school and have no problem going to sleep. We also have one TV in the livingroom and another one in my room. This is what works for me so far, other kids get playstations, my kids are not into that. Actually my youngest has the computer in her room with internet access too , but she's constantly monitored.
