Do your kids have a tv in their room?

We have 2 DSs ages 14 and 15.......neither of them have a TV!

They can watch it with us if they choose to.

Well, yes and no. My daughter and I share a room, so teecchhhhnniicaaallllyyy...yes. I usually pop in a Cat in the Hat DVD for her since the sound kind of lulls her to sleep. I'm going to change it to a radio soon though, because it can be too distracting for her.

I'm from a tv family. I like to watch tv at night in bed. I rarely fall asleep to it, but it does sometimes happen. We have 4 tvs in the house.

My older dd (almost 9yrs old) has a tv with cable hookup in her room. The cable hookup predates the child. Before DH and I had kids we used that room as our exercise room. We had a stationary bike and a cross country ski machine in there. We kept a tv in there to help distract us when we worked out. Then we had DD #1. We moved the tv to the third bedroom but never hooked it up because there was no cable. Three years later we had dd #2 and she got the third bedroom. Since the tv had no room to go to we moved it back to the other bedroom and hooked it up. We control when she gets to watch it. She can't have it on weekday mornings or she won't get ready for school. It can't be on during homework and she cant' have it on after bedtime.

She will watch there weekend mornings with her little sister. Sometimes she doesn't want to watch there because the cable is not the deluxe cable we have downstairs so she doesn't get all the channels. They also have a tv with vcr in their playroom. We did that so they would watch their movies in their own playroom and this way we could remove some of the toys from our den.

I had a 13 inch TV in my room. I bought it when I was 12 (babysitting money). I also paid the $25 fee to have cable installed. I only used it at night and while getting ready for school in the morning....or when a hockey game was on and my parents wanted to watch something else.

My plan (because I find that saying NEVER will just come back and bite you) is to not have TV or internet in bedrooms. We do have a TV in the basement playroom. The cable isn't hook up to it (on purpose), so the kids can only watch tapes on it. Truthfully, the kids don't use the TV down there very oftern. They want to be upstairs with us . On the main floor Tv (with Cable), our only "controversial" shows are Spongebob and Rugrats. We don't allow Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, Fairly Odd Parents, Dexter, and a bunch of the other crappy attitude problem, disrespectful shows that are on Nick and esp. Cartoon Network.

No they don't. But our spare room which is inbetween their rooms I've made into a kids tv room.........it has a tv & video/dvd in it.

Our 11 year old has had a TV with satellite hook up for the past year. He also has a Playstation attached and that's what he usually plays with the rare times he goes into his room. I don't monitor when he watches but I do pay attention to what. I don't care for MTV in particular. We don't have any movie channels so I don't have to worry about that.

My 6 yr old has a TV in her room. Actually she has 2 TVs in her room!!! One is about 20 years old and no longer has a working remote. It is up on top of her armoire so she cant reach it and the buttons work so wierd I am the only one that knows how to change the channels!!! The other one has a vcr in in that we use on camping trips and she only uses it to watch movies. We never program it to get regular stations. She does watch alot of TV but she also likes to play dress up,read her books and use her very vivid imagination.

Both mine do! My son, 6 and my daughter, 4 both have the Disney TV's and matching DVD players...no cable/satellite hookup though...They only watch Disney DVD's in their rooms at night before bedtime...

I have a TV in my bedroom as well...DH works late hours and usually doesn't get home until 2 in the morning, so the TV helps me to sleep at night.

Boy this question brought back some forgotten irritation! My DD11 got a tv/dvd player for Christmas from Santa, aka, her Dad. Remarkably she still believes in Santa, but being an only child may have a lot to do with that. Anyway, this was definitely a bone of contention between DH & I on Christmas morning when she opened this gift. He typically does some last minute alone shopping on Christmas Eve and came home with that treasure. It was always something I was against, but luckily so far she hasn't abused the priveledge. She's still a straight A student, and plays select basketball, so it's going ok so far. I never had a tv in my room growing up & didn't think it necessary for her either. MEN!

Our 11 yo DD got one for her room for Christmas. She has gymnastics 11 hours a week, so she doesn't get to watch it much. We got her one cause she got tired of watching the 2 yo shows her sister wanted to watch.

Yes we each have a tv in our bedrooms. I think everyone needs a place where they can watch what they want quietly. That said we are normally watching together in our living room. My second ds mainly uses his for his x-box. And having 2 small children 4 and 21 months my 2 oldest dont always want to watch Spongebob or some other cartoon.

Yes - he has an older TV (a dial to change stations) but it's hooked up to cable through a VCR. He generally watches Cartoons for 30 minutes before bed then it's off. He uses it primarily for games (PS2/gamecube).

We have an extra tv that right now is in dd(16) room. It's not hooked up to cable, she'll watch a movie once in a while. Every once in a while ds(13) wants a tv in his room, so we let him bring the one from dd's room into his. He had it about 2 months and had it on once (the night he brought it in).

We have two TV sets in our home. One 20 inch TV/DVD/VCR combo in the living room and a small 13 inch TV/VCR combo in the laundry room. Sometimes we move this TV from room to room if we are working on a project or someone is confined to their room due to illness. No TV in any of the bedrooms. Plans are to get a big screen TV for the lower level family room in the near future.

DS 11 is not allowed to watch TV or play computer games on school nights, unless he brings home a good grade on a test, then we allow him to spend 30 or 60 minutes with his choice of either TV or computer games--but only after his homework is done for the day! This may sound draconian, however, we have found that the time we spend together as a family, playing games, DH reading to DS, etc. is much more valuable than any of the stuff on TV these days.

My kids don't have TVs in their rooms, but there is one in their playroom, with limited cable and their gamecube. We also have one on the living room and one in my bedroom. I could probably count on 1 hand the number of times they've watched TV in the playroom. They just don't like to be alone, and the playroom is in the basement. They'll watch TV in the living room if I'm downstairs, and in my bed room if I am upstairs. On the occasions we want to watch different shows, its always a struggle; they still want to be with me, but don't want to watch my shows. If I'm upstairs, they come in and ask me to change the channel. If I'm downstairs, ditto. So now, its "If I'm watching TV and you want to be with me, you have to watch what I watch" (unless it isn't appropriate for kids, then I make them leave the room. Which doesn't happen very often, usually those shows are on after they are in bed, like CSI.) BTW, they are 9 & 11.
