We got my son's high school schedule and they don't have homeroom. I always had a homeroom in high school, but of course that was a looooooong time ago (but lets not go there)! Just wondering if this was the new norm for high schoolers! Oh they grow up too fast!

I work in a HS, and we don't have homeroom. Of course, every once in a while, they have a special meeting for grade levels, and it's a little chaotic for the kids to figure out where to go & when! (We've also been known to use English classes for grade-level announcements, since that's about the only strictly grade-level class.)

At my school we have a (pointless) 15 minute homeroom. If you have a decent teacher like mine, you can just leave after attendance is taken.

My 5th grader is switching classes this room and yes he has a Homeroom.....

However, when I was in high school we didn't....we just went into our first class....I thought home room was pointless too....DH has one at his school.

At DD's HS they have a homeroom teacher - but they only go there on the first day of school and then a couple of times later in the year. For the rest of the time they go directly to 1st period.

we didn't have homeroom in high school. after first period, there was a 5 minute period where announcements were read over the loudspeaker, but that was it. if they neede to have a school-wide assembly, they'd rearrange the entire day's schedule to make an extra period. :)

2nd period is considered homeroom period, but no extra time is added on. Twice a week the announcements are read over the loudspeaker, and the rest of the time the teacher reads the school bulletin (news) to us. This is also when ASB people come in to tell us about fundraisers, etc.

At the beginning of each semester we have a "homeroom" class where we go to pick up our schedules. But no one can ever find their class since we only do it twice a year, and it is pretty pointless - a good waste of 15 minutes.

My highschoolers have homeroom. The announcements are read and any school business is taken care of there. Only 10 minutes a day.

I graduated 3 years ago, and we didn't really have homeroom period. We were each assigned a "homeroom" but we only went there to pick up things like our report cards a few times a year. Everyone just went to their first class which, theoretically, could be a different time for different students if someone happened to have a spare in first slot.

DS #2 has a homeroom for about 10 minutes each morning. I don't know what they do, other than announcements and maybe occasionally they fill out a form.

I don't have a homeroom. In jr high we had "homebase" for 30 minutes every morning. We watched Channel 1 and then we were supposed to have structured discussions, but we never did.

In high school we have no homeroom, but we do have an "advisory" where we go every once in a while to get schedules or report cards and stuff like that.

No home room for DS in high school-they found sending things home in the mail got them there more effectively.
middle school has replaced Homebase with literacy hour but that is where they get announcements and that sort of thing

When I was in high school, homeroom was an extra 15 min in 2nd period. Any announcements were made over the PA and we watched TV- channel 1 and our school's channel which was really kinda cool (they did the weather, special announcements, interviews, and funny short videos that they produced). It was second period of the day, but it may have been your first or second class depending on how your schedule was arranged. Juniors and Seniors went 1-6 with an optional 7th period elective. Freshman and Sophmores went 2-7 or some could opt to have a seventh period, but they had to be good students and have a valid reason for wishing to have an extra period.

Newbie-freshman DS has a short homeroom everyday.

I had one back in HS also. It was mostly attendance and individual things from the office, if applicable. Mostly a gab-fest. My homeroom teacher was pretty neat.

No homeroom at my school.
We don't have an intercom system either.
Instead we have All school meeting starting at 10:15 where the whole school (all 200 of us:rolleyes: ) meets in the gym or outside if it is nice. We have time to eat and then announcements from students and teachers. It can be anything...birthdays, books we need for class, dress code reminders, dance announcements.....
Actually Break(which is what we call it) is how I found out about 9/11. My headmaster said There has been a serious terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in NYC. That was all we got until 4th when teachers started telling us stuff.

We had homeroom when I was in HS. My DS's went to the same HS and thier 1st period class had an extra few minutes and at the beginning of the day they did announcements and such then.

we had homeroom in my high school (1992-1996). :)
