Do your children like their names (inspired by what my friends named their DD)

DS16, Craig, seems to like his name. He has 2 middle names, and all of his initials spell out the word "CARS". All of his names are names of relatives, too. His dad, and 2 grandfathers. When he was in kindergarten, he met another Craig who also had 2 middle names, named for his grandfathers, they were best friends until we moved 7 years ago.

DS13, Robby, likes his name a lot, but DO NOT call him "Bob". He even doesn't mind being called Robert (his full name), just NOT "Bob".

My full name is Theresa, which I really like, but I've always gone by the nickname "Terry". When I first started chatting online over 10 years ago, I'd spell it "Terri" because too many people were asking me if I were a guy! I always used to introduce myself as Terry, but for the last several years when I meet someone new, I say Theresa.

DH's name is John and so is his dad's. His dad's nickname is Jack, so DH was always called Jackie. Only his family still calls him that. I think it's ridiculous to replace a 4-letter name with 4-letter nickname. LOL

I never understood that one either...the name is short enough why change it to another name completely??

My daughters name is long-Kassandra and she hates writing it out and really doesn't answer when you call her it..she has been Kasey (pronounced Kay Cee NOT cassie ) and that is what she goes by. She starts school next year and I was already up there making sure I wan not going to have a problem with them making her write out her full name and they said no problem.

My name is Jeanne, and I am forever being called "Jeannie". I used to not really care, but I really do prefer Jeanne (no I).
My DD8 is Karen Jeanne, but I have always called her Kari. She just asked me if she can start using Kari as her name for everything, I told her sure. So, now I am signing her name that way on cards and stuff.
My DS10 has an unusual name, same as Dh. He really likes it, and is the only one we know! He is at the stage where he wants to be called nothing else. No nicknames, no pet names, just Otto.

Our youngest daughter, (13), always liked her name until she looked up the meaning behind it. Her name is Mallory, a name that I just love. She has always been the only Mallory in her school as it is not a very common first name. I never thought to look up the meaning behind the name. I just loved the sound of it, and it goes along with her older sister's name, Megan.

Well, most name books say that Mallory means bad luck, evil, (hence, the word "mal"), or something similar. I was heart-broken when I learned of the meaning and I remember spending hours on the internet searching for some site that had something nice to say about the name Mallory. I did find a different meaning somewhere that said that Mallory is French and means armor And I have found shops that sell plaques with names written with a word that begins with each letter in the name, (i.e.- M is for marvelous, A is for angel, etc.), and I have on hanging above her bed.

Anyway, not many people know the meaning of her name and I think she has come to like the fact that her name is a bit unique. I would not change it because I still think it is a beautiful name and many people comment on what a pretty name it is.

I think our DS's like their names. The little one is only 16 months, but so far he has shown no objection! Our older son is Cameron Paul, and he likes his name. He has told us he prefers to be called Cameron as opposed to Cam, and there are no other Camerons in his class so far. The little guy is Douglas Robert. We wanted to pick names that were different (names that you don't hear every day) but not weird. I'm Ann and I have hated my name all my life. It's so plain, and I don't think it suits me- and I HATE being called Annie. DH is Glenn, and he really likes his name. He likes the fact that you don't meet too many Glenns, and he also thinks he's really unique because he's a "2 N Glenn"!

Thats funny...we have 2 glens at work and one is spelled with 2 N's and he is now called Glenn with 2 N's while the other is just called Glen.

years old now, and I don't remember any of them complaining (Pamelina and Patrick).....I gave them both 2 middle names, so if they didn't like the first, they could go by any of the middle names. In my family, everyone was called by thier MIDDLE name--mine was Penelope hence, Pennie I was called ALL my life except about 12 years ago, I decided to go by Faith my first name...only close family and friends call me Pennie now, others Faith.

Oldest DS likes his name except for the slightly untraditional spelling of an E instead of an O. I toldhim to spell it any way he wants. He hates his middle name. I work in the same school district, so I asked our guidance counselor to remove it from the school computer. He was so happy when he got his last Honor Roll Certificate with NO middle name - lol!

Our middle has never complained.

Our youngest has a hyphenated first name and no middle name. Sometimes she complains about not having a middle name when filling out forms. I told her to feel free to make one up.

another f unny story about my name {Jennifer Lynne}
I was going out with a guy for 2 years, and his older sister's name was Jennifer Lynn....
it used to confuse everyone because if someone just said jen..or even the whole name..we had no idea who they were talking to..
i t just got to be a big joke after awhile!

Mine are Melissa Juanita, Camille Elizabeth, Alexander Bouvier, Maximilian Matthew, and Sydney Katherine Simone (had to get in that extra name for the youngest!)

The only one who has ever actively complained about her name is Camille, she does not like some of the nicknames her friends have come up with, especially Cami (like Tammy).

Max and Sydney have commented more than once that they like their names.

I think it took Max forever to learn how to spell his, though. We have a long last name too, so I guess on forms they may not be quite so pleased!

It's funny this subject came up because DD(15) and I were just talking about this the other day. She said she LOVES her name, which is Jillian, because she's the "only Jillian I know" I love it, too, and had initially wanted to spell it with a "G" but was afraid too many people would pronounce it with the hard g sound (like Gilligan). She is such a Jillian, too.
