Do you wear dresses at the parks when its hot?

i personally love wearing dresses at parks. the concern with chafing, i have worn both shorts and spandex under dresses to prevent it. IT helps to feel both cool and cute :-)

On our last trip, I learned I was MUCH happier in the heat while wearing dresses than I was wearing shorts. I am fat and used the Gold Bond anti-chafe stick and men's boxer briefs to avoid chub rub. This time I am bringing dresses and skirts exclusively, but I got better underwear (similar to Jockeys Skimmies, but these are Undersummers).

I get tons of tips on great walking shoes from the Dis. I just got a pair of Jambu t-straps to go along with my Keens (Whisper and Rose) and Clarks. I would love to be able to wear cuter shoes in the parks, but I love being able to walk without pain a lot more!

I wear dresses. I have a hard time finding shorts that fit me right, but dresses aren't much of a problem. I find them to be cool and comfortable. I usually wear a maxi dress which cuts down on the chances of it blowing up to about zero, but, as other have mentioned, chafing is no fun and very common in that Florida heat. I usually wear biker shorts underneath. And, for those wondering, I usually wear flip flops. I have some Tevas and some Sperrys that I like. I am not a fan of the teva sandals style so I stick with the flip flops. I also love my Taryn Rose Bryan flats. That company was founded by an orthopedic surgeon and feel better than any other flats I have ever had. I have also been known to wear golf skirts in the parks and I just pair those with a pair of Sketchers tennis shoes.

50's dresses would be perfect for me. I like the knee length. Would love to know where you found them. I don't sew unfortunately.

I would second modcloth.com I have about 15 cute sundresses from there. I live in Central Florida and I live in sundresses in the summer. I will say that Modcloth can be hit or miss, you really have to read the reviews and see what the quality and the fit is like before you order.

Oh i agree it's necessary...but the question was how is layering a skirt over shorts less hot than wearing just shorts?
I think I answered already, my memory fails, but I wear a compression type short that isn't as thick as khaki/jean shorts or even bike shorts. These prevent chub rub and flashing, but they aren't nearly as hot and heavy as regular shorts/capris. (Think tights or leggings that are shorts). However, There is NO WAY it would be appropriate for me to wear shorts that are as tight as bike shorts and of thinner material without something over it. So an airy skirt/dress over shorts that are lighter than normal is still as cool as just shorts.

The shorts under my dresses are so minimal (I would NEVER wear them alone) that I am cooler than if I just wore shorts. The material is so much thinner than regular shorts and a flowy dress is so much cooler for me.

I have wondered this too! I always wear shorts, but would love to wear a cute dress...especially for pictures with all the princess :) heehe But worried about how comfortable I would be. Maybe Ill try it out with some little spandex shorts!

Okay, I know this thread is old, but I experimented with some of the ideas here on my recent trip, and I wanted to share reviews.
  1. Jockey slipshorts: Mixes results, but good overall! I bought a pair from Target that is the JKY by Jockey brand, and they are awesome. They stay in place all day - I wore them under a dress to HS and walked all the way to the Yacht Club and back for dinner very comfortably. Then I have some actual Jockey ones I ordered from Amazon; they are good, but the waist rolls down (I bought two sizes, and they both do this, so I'm not sure if it's an issue of being too big or too small.) I wore these Jockey ones a couple times, including walking around MK for several hours after dinner at 1900 PF. I had to pull up the waist a lot. The ones from Target are also a lighter material. I highly, highly recommend the JKY by Jockey from Target slipshorts!

  2. Dresses: I bought two for Disney and loved them both:
    • First is THIS Toad & Co. dress from REI, and I am in love. I wore this at Disney Springs and Hollywood Studios - light, comfy, and provides good coverage. I wore a sports bra under it with those JKY skipshorts and it was fantastic. I wore it with Skechers Go Walk shoes and looked totally cute - it was my birthday, so I had to look cute!!
    • Second is this Icebreaker dress, also from REI. It's super, super light and make of a stretchy merino wool. It's not transparent enough to necessitate a camisole; I wore a white sports bra underneath with no show-through issues. However, it is a bit short, so I wore it with mushroom-colored cropped leggings. It is not as perfect as that Toad & Co. dress, but it was wonderful. I wore it at Animal Kingdom and was comfortable, and we all know that AK is the hottest place on earth.
So, after this trip, I can definitively recommend JKY by Jockey slipshorts from target, and stretchy, knee-length dresses made from technical fabrics for walking around the parks. I normally wear running shorts and a moisture-wicking top, so it was awesome to feel just as comfortable while also looking cuute!

I have some BCG (I think thats the brand) wicking volleyball shorts from Academy and the band folds down too! I may try to grab some JKY from Target then! Thank you!

I always wear dresses or skirts with tanks. So much for comfy. For those with chafing concerns - body glide!! Rub it on your inner thighs.....
