Do you volunteer anywhere besides your own church or kids' schools?

A friend of mine is a cuddler at our local Intensive Care Nursery. She holds babies whose parents aren't able to be with the babies all the time.

She was a cuddler in the nursery when my daughter was in there for two weeks. It's nice to know if I couldn't be there that there was someone willing to love my baby.

we have this thing at my work called kid's club and we have crafts and contests and activities like that kids come to and we look after them while their parents grocery shop. they also get a membership card and get a free cookie, balloon, and slice of cheese everytime they come in the store. also around their bday they get coupons for discounts on birthday cakes and that sort of thing. this is what i do with my time. i help organize some things with our boss.

I don't, but my husband is a volunteer firefighter-I joke and say he does enough volunteering for both of us because it keeps him so busy(he was actually at a fire from 9pm-4 am last night), but honestly I'd like to volunteer, I just don't know how to start.
I'd like to be an ESL tutor at our local library, and they say you don't need to speak another language, but I don't know how that would work.

I volunteer at our local hospice, notarizing health care powers of attorney and living wills. I don't do it real often, but when I do it usually takes a couple hours. I go with a social worker to the patients' home and he/she goes over all the details. I also do a shift or two at the Christmas fund-raiser, an angel tree.

It sounds like you would be a really good hospice patient care volunteer. Those people build an on-going relationship with a patient and his/her family.

I volunteer for a Hospice too; it is very rewarding....
Habitat for Humanity is also a wonderful cause - I do some for them as well.

Good luck in your search for a cause! :D

I would love to do that! Thanks for the incentive-I'm calling my local hospital right now!

I don't belong to any church so I don't volunteer there, I don't do much at my daughters school but I work with a foundatio that gets toys for sick and needy children at Christmas and also supplies poor kids with back to school clothes and supplies.

In the last few months my husband and I have gotten really involved with our local March of Dimes chapter. Because of our experience with Paul, it is something that is really close to our hearts. We speak to different organizations about prematurity, the work of the March of Dimes - things like that. People are so interested in Paul's story, and we love sharing about our little miracle baby. We're also helping organize our local WalkAmerica event, etc. We're having a great time and it feels good to be giving something back since we feel so lucky to have little Paul with us.
