Do you use TSA approved locks on your luggage?

We do - we like to use them while we are on the plane and stuff - but we also use them to lock away stuff in our luggage in our resort room while we are out for the day.

The locks are built into our suitcases, and we use them when we leave our bags outside of our rooms the last night of a cruise and when we need to lock something up in a hotel room if the safe is not big enough. If we check the bags with the airlines, they remain unlocked. Anything of value is in a carry-on or personal bag.

Would you know if they were opened? I read the TSA will open them then re lock them. Would that be obvious?
When TFSA opens your luggage you generally know as things are in different places when you open your suitcase. Also, there is a paper in your suitcase indicating it was opened by TFSA.

Not sure why but ours get opened about every 3rd trip. They're probably wondering how I squeeze so much into our suitcases? ;)

I just use a small carabineer to keep everything closed, nothing of value in checked bags so no reason to lock. If we do use luggage delivery or bell services sometimes I use zip ties so I can tell if something has been opened but again nothing of value would be inside.

I always use TSA approved locks and my husband never does. Only once have we had items stolen from my husband's bag and that was flying home from NY. I see it as more of a deterrent for crimes of opportunity. It won't stop someone who really wants to get in my suitcase but it makes it a lot more difficult than just reaching in my husband's bag and grabbing our souvenirs.

My bag has been searched by TSA on a few occasions (notice was left in the bag) but I have never had any problems.

When TSA searches your checked luggage there's usually a notice saying TSA was here (and your clothes are in different places). I think they make a mark on the bottom of the lock to indicate it was opened? Or they used to?

Had luggage searched once and TSA left a little note saying my luggage had been searched. At least they didn't mess anything up. I always use TSA approved luggage straps since my suitcase locks are not approved.

I use a TSA lock, more to keep from accidental opening than anything else. I have no idea if TSA goes in the bag; a few years ago they used to put a card or paper in saying they were in there, but I haven't seen that lately. Don't know if they're not opening or not leaving a note.

Nope, don't use a lock. Figure they are more trouble than it's worth. My luck I'd forget the code or the key
They do still use the papers if they search your bags, DH's bag gets checked about every other trip.

Always when we travel. For one, it keeps the zipper from opening on its own (have you seen how they throw those bags around? :-o) and two why make it that much easier for someone to steal something?

Yes, TSA approved. Nothing mysterious can show up in ur suitcase while it’s away from u.
TSA will place a note inside if they open/search it.
We use the locks at the resort.. to place things inside we just don’t want sitting out in the open.
Don’t travel without them..
