Do you use color blocking templates?

I really love the look of a scrapbook page that has used a color blocking template.

I remember having a couple of them (12x12) a few years ago but I cannot seem to find them ANYWHERE!!!

I also have an idea book from, I believe Deluxe Cuts (these are the same templates I had too) I just don't think they're still around, around they?

I went to a crop yesterday morning and brought along that idea book for some inspiration and it got me thinking that I wanted to break out my templates and get some pages done using them. But I can't find them anywhere? Not sure if I got rid of them when I cleaned out my scrap area the last time? I asked my scrapping friends if they borrowed it, answer was no.

Anyhow, I went online to find some and they seem to be a dinosaur product. Can't seem to find them anymore. I even went on ebay and only found one auction with color blocking templates but it was for card making, not 12x12 pages.

Are they still out there, maybe called by a different name now? I would really like to get some more but I've hit a wall. Do you know of anywhere where they still sell them? Thanks!!!

I have a couple of them, I don't think the company is around anymore. I like the look as well.

I like the 'look' too, but never had the templates.

You've identified one of the downsides of purging.

I regret having gotten rid of my old thumb punches and the fixture that let me punch borders with them.

I regret having parted with my binder full of templates.

And I really regret having gotten rid of my old idea books because they'd "never be my style".

Well guess what. I wish I had them all back because now I'm more open to trying new stuff, punch around the page is "in" and there are a few times I could have used the templates.

My friend and I love these templates! I like putting a lot of photos on a page and these really help. Unfortunately, as far as I know, no one else is making these templates. Have you tried doing a google search to see if an online store might still have some?

Here's my next question though. How exactly do you use the templates? LOL Do you place it on top of your page, trace the squares, then measure the squares to cut your pictures with, then glue everything down?

I know I'm all about doing some pages now with the color blocking but now I'm at a loss at how to use it. LOL

I'd like to know the easiest way to use them too. I am pretty sure I have them in my studio, but have never used them. It seemed like a great idea when I bought them, but once home, they got put away. Since I am starting to clean the studio....maybe I can use them!

I remember those. Color blocking with nice straight lines is more my style too. Clean & to the point. I don't get into all this messy collage where embellishments have nothing to do with the page subject. I look at it as a way for the companies to sell product.

These are what I have & remember. Made by Deluxe Cuts. Hard plastic reusable templates. You could flip them & rotate them to change the layout. The template was not part of the permanent page layout.

I do remember the paper mosiac grids linked in previous post too. You snip out the sections you don't want & you lay it over your page & photos & adhere it. One time use.

If you have a Cricut Expression, I'm sure there are SVG files to make your own overlays. I've seen videos on youtube how to make them with SCAL software.

When I use a color blocking template, I place it down on the paper. Then I tuck photos in the squares that I want want photos. I use a pencil to mark on the photo where to cut. I also use some squares/other shapes on the templates to put a journal box or embellishments. After everything is cut out, I replace it all down under the template. Then I pick up the template and glue it all down. You don't have to use the squares as they are, you can combine them to make a bigger area. In the link in the post right above, you could combine the three little rectangles on top into one long title bar.

Hope that made sense! Seems harder when I wrote it out, but it's easy.
