Do you unpack your suitcase and use the drawers, closet, etc? with poll

As for the floors, we take our shoes off, but try and make sure we have socks or slippers on. It has nothing to do with "putting my feet in my mouth" even though I would love to have the flexibility to do that It's more about not climbing into bed with really dirty feet.

It would probably help if the posters would post how many suitcases they totally have. Because I read a few posts that said they just put it on the suitcase rack, and live out of it. For our family of 4 with 4 suitcases (2 medium & 2 large), I am pretty sure the rack would collapse Having 4 suitcases is a BIG factor for us in unpacking vs having 4 suitcases taking up space laying around the room. As for packing up to go home, it is super quick because most of the clothes are in the dirty laundry bag (we have a separate bag for undies and socks) so not a lot of good clothes to pack. Packing the clothes does not make me depressed, it's when we are pulling our suitcases to load up our van

We use the closet, not the drawers... I pack the hanging clothing on top of the suit case, open the suitcase and hang up right away...take out the shoes the go into bottom of the closet or just on the floor... I set up the dirty clothes bag, take out the toiletries put in the bathroom, power-cords and cords for the phones and anything else that needs to recharge... set the suitcase's on the luggage holder and/or a chair and and we are good to go...

We sometimes use will use the open shelving to put things on...

As the vacation days click by... I will spend a few minutes readjusting the luggage midway during the trip - I will pull all the clean clothes into one suitcase, and then take the dirty clothes bag, put it in the suitcase, then neatly fold up all the dirty clothes into the dirty clothes bag so that everything will fit.. on the last full day of vacation I will pull out what we need for the last night, and for our departure day. I have a small clothing bag that I will put the clean clothes in if we have any normally we do one outfit each and maybe a extra shirt or something like that, and then I have another dirty clothes bag redistribute the dirty laundry between the bags, for weight for the flight home... I know 3 bags seem alot but it works for us they are lightweight and don't take up any room... So when we get home, the 2 dirty clothes bag go straight to the laundry room, and the one with the clean clothing goes up stairs to our room to be put away, the suitcase get put in the downstairs closet... all done...

We fully unpack when we arrive at the hotel. Most things go in the drawers and a few things are hung up in the closet. I stow one suitcase in the closet and use the other as a night table of sorts for the side of the bed near the wall. I need to have some order or I would go nuts.

Unpacking at Disney is actually one of my favorite moments (I know, I’m strange that way.) When we get there, we’ll grab a drink from the pool bar, bring it to the room, turn Stacey on the TV, and then spend 45 minutes or so unpacking, organizing, and relaxing. It really makes me feel like I’ve “arrived” finally. We drive, so after 7-8 hours in the car, it’s just a nice way to unwind.

What do you find is the best source for buying packing cubes? I’ve got a set of three that are more like rectangles but they are sure handy. I think I bought them at Tuesday Morning.

They were a gift. I have seen some nice sets on Amazon though.

I have used Shacke Pak (on amazon) for about 5 years now. I love them...we all have a set in different colors. They are 4 inches tall (which is taller than some) and fit quite a bit in each cube. They have held up really well through multiple trips!

I hang some things in the closet, like tops and dresses, but leave shorts, swimsuits, etc. in my suitcase. But, I am not a particularly organized person so digging around in the suitcase doesn't bother me DH unpacks completely and uses the drawers. DD9 usually lives out of her suitcase too but occasionally will unpack, depends if she gets in one of her "organizing frenzies".

I put the packing cubes in the drawers. Unpacked in 5-10 minutes. Dirty goes in a laundry bag that is set up in the closet. End of the trip dirtylaundry in one suitcase, other has remaining clean stuff and souvenirs. Everything, clean or dirty, gets washed anyway.

By using the packing cubes, I limit any cross contamination as well as taking less time unpacking and each morning.

I either travel solo or with just one other person (my husband or my sister), so the suitcase easily fits in a corner. Or, on the table of the murphy bed when we stayed at Pop Century. If there are 2 of us traveling, we generally have 2 suitcases, and a couple of carry on bags (think backpacks). So we don't have suitcases all over the room. We don't unpack, other than removing the day bag stuff, and the toiletry bag. We stand up the suitcases in a corner, and grab clothes out of them in the morning. I generally pack in a pretty orderly manner, so I just have to open the suitcase, grab clothes, and close the suitcase back up. We generally find a plastic bag and stuff the dirty clothes in them, and then at the end of the trip, throw the dirty clothes bag back in the suitcase. By keeping my clothes in the suitcase, I know where they are, and that feels like the most organized option to me. Plus, I'm the person that is usually on a bus to the parks within half an hour of DME dropping me off at the hotel. I'm not interested in using vacation time to unpack, and certainly not to clean.

All our clean clothes are in big ziploc bags (one full outfit per bag) so I don’t mind placing them in the drawers and in the morning no fighting with the kids on what clothes to wear, they simply pick a ziploc that includes everything they need for the day.

I read this and boom LOVED IT!!! I would like to pack one outfit per day using "ziplock" style bags. The actual Ziplock gallon size are too small for adult clothing, what brand do you use?

I'd like to pack: Shirt, shorts, socks and underwear in each bag then after worn all day we can put our dirty clothes in them and toss in our suit cases. Wash clothes at home and sanitize the bags before storing.

Thanks for the tip, im going to look out for these at dollarama. I had switched to packing cubes but might try a combo next trip to save more space. Now that my kids are much older, their clothes are too big to fit complete outfits into regular ziploc freezer bags.

When I was single and traveling, I lived out of my suitcase but now I unpack. It makes it easier for me to keep track of our stuff. Then the suitcase is left open and dirty clothes are thrown into it at the end of the day, so not much packing up has to happen when we leave. Except of course for trying to figure out where to put all of the stuff we purchased!
I'm not surprised to see many other people unpack too but I am surprised that so many people are worried about "cooties" in drawers! I'll gladly throw my clothes in the drawer and not think twice about it. Even if somebody's dirty clothes were in there before me. What is going to happen? I don't get it.

They sell 2 1/2 gallon sized ziplock bags at Walmart. They are big enough to put several pieces of clothes or a pair of shoes in them easy.
