I typically never unpack my suitcases unless it’s to hang a few items up in the closet. Since we started using the packing cubes, I find it is a lot easier to keep things organized and I don’t find my suitcases becoming nearly as messy as they used to be. I keep similar items in each packing cube (e.g. underwear in a smaller cube and separate cubes for tops and bottoms) and I have sets of different coloured packing cubes so that each family member has their own colour. When you’re looking for something to wear in the morning, for example, it is easy to just pull out the individual cubes and get to the one(s) that you need. It has made a huge difference for us :).

Thanks! Do you put clothes in them as well, or just smaller items? I’ve never heard of this.

We pack all clothing items in the packing cubes. You can buy different sizes so you just have to determine what works best for you. I only have a few smaller ones for underwear and socks and then the larger ones are for shirts and shorts and pants. I do find that I have to fold the tops and bottoms so that they will fit in the cubes but you may be able to buy larger packing cubes than the ones we have currently. Hope that helps!

I unpack simply because I don’t like living out of a suitcase. It feels like I’m still traveling rather than having arrived at a destination.

I have to admit, though, that I’m confused by the comments suggesting that keeping your clothes in a suitcase makes it easier to pack back up at the end of a trip. I just put all of my dirty clothes in a laundry bag each night and at the end of the stay I put the bag in my suitcase. Literally takes me five seconds to pack my clothes at trip’s end.

That’s awesome, I’ll have to do a search! I appreciate your help!

Which cubes are best? I ordered eagle creek full size. The smaller ones are redundant to my other packing strategies. Are there other brands that are preferable?
ebags brand. They are NOT all created equal. Eagle Creek is fine but more $$ than ebags. If bought knock offs, Amazon, some other unamed brand. Threw them out. Horrible.

Does it take up more space or does it end up saving room because each thing is in its own pack?
Saves room. You fit a whole lot more organized in cubes than you do just packing in a suitcase. Google it, see comparison videos. There are hundreds
I roll my clothes and put them in the cubes. Cubes then stack neatly in the suitcase and use the suitcase straps to hold them in.

Yeah I am a bit confused too. Is the dirty laundry staying in the suitcase the whole time? I am assuming it doesn't. So then by leaving everything in the suitcase aren't you just slowly unpacking your suitcase a day at a time as you wear things and then re-packing it all back up dirty at then end, versus unpacking it all in the beginning and re-packing it all back up dirty at the end?

Sounds like something I need to check out. Thanks!

I highly recommend getting one of the garment folders too. Many times they are sold along with the packing cubes in sets. The folder looks like a giant envelope. I use mine for all of my tops, you can get around 10-15 tops in one folder, depending on how puffy the top is. Love mine!

Now, these I can't use. Got 2 from Eagle Creek, tried them instead of the cubes. Fail. Couldn't fit as much in it as I can my cubes.

We always unpack no matter how long the stay. I wipe the drawers with Lysol wipes and also wipe down tons of other stuff too...lol.

We're a family of 5, so I also bring collapsable shoe racks (from a dollar store) and hang them in the closet for my son and husband (they care less).

I hang all the clothing and store the luggage on the side of the bed closest to the wall and one or two in the closet.

I hang a large laundry bag for dirty clothes and every other day put in one of the luggages and replace it with another. I use the luggage rack for the smaller carry on luggage and fill it with shoes so there not all over the floor the whole trip.

I can never function with everything doesn't have a place and if everyone asked me hundred times where everything is...lol

I think we unpack because we have a history of staying in pool homes, condos, timeshares (DVC as well as others) and multiple room suites while at Disney and the beach, suites also in NYC and units via VRBO elsewhere.
So we have food and other supplies etc, often a washer drier. So unpacking is a no brainer.
