Do you trust Fodor's, Frommer's, or this board for hotel opinions?

My dh was just in a bookstore looking at guides to Florida and he quoted them as saying certain hotels are recommended. I said that I really liked all the opinions here. Also, I said that if one was booking through this board you stood a better chance of the abode being fine which some of my friends have done.

He said HIFS and Doubletree are good which we agree on. It is interesting to this?
What do you think? I guess there are two questions here!!

Frommer and Fodels are good, but I think you get more unbiased opinions on this board...especially on the offsite hotels. As for the onsite hotels, everyone has their favorite, and they tend to stick by it through thick and thin. If offsite is better for your situation, go for it. I am certainly glad (being the Disney onsite resort snob that I am) that I took advantage of the Courtyard Marriott $20.02 special this summer. What a treat, and close enough to onsite to satisfy me, as well!

Frommer's advocates sleeping in the airport, so I am a bit skeptical of that advice. If you are looking for reviews on off-site hotels, you can go to www.biddingfortravel.com and look under the hotel review section. Of course it only lists hotels that participate in Priceline, but it is a good start!

Since Star ratings '*' are often overrated and not reliable a good
reliable published source is AAA. They are stingy with those diamonds, and a four diamond property you can be sure is well deserving.

Yes, Frommers is the one my inlaws use... very "budget minded", to put it nicely!

I would say your best bet is to look at all three. Don't think I would ever make up my mind unless I had opinions from different sources.
These boards are quite honest though. Just ask a direct question!!

I'd have to agree with ZuZugal. I'm new to these boards, but it seems like you can get a lot more direct answers on this board than the others (plus everyone here seems nicer...I've almost had my head bitten off by some frommerphiles). Still, I find it best to do the most research possible from as many sources as I can. What's good to one person might seem unacceptable to another and vice versa.

I try to gather as much information as I can, so I always seek a diverse set of opinions. I trust the major guidebooks because they visit the hotels often enough to get a pretty good read on them. At the same time, it's a big help to read people's personal experiences on this board. It adds a little perspective to the short blurbs usually found in the books.

There is a site with lots on feedback on hotels,resorts etc. that is very helpful www.tripadvisor.com
