Do you tip the spa employees?

This may sound silly, but I have never been to a spa and would like to know the guidelines for tipping spa employees.

Actually, I am not paying for their service because I won a trip to Disney and included in my prize is a 7 day/6 nights stay at PBH with a visit to the spa. I received a gift cert. for an "Aroma stone massage". I checked their website and found out the massage is worth $135. Need your opinions.

After reading your posts I consider myself really lucky. Seems like I am going to have a great vacation....Ivy, from Puerto Rico

We won a trip to DW once also. It was great. Who did you win it from?

Wow!!! That's quite a prize. I don't really know how much you should tip. I just want to say how jealous I am. You are lucky - 6 nights at PBH and a visit to the spa! You are going to have a great time. Please write a trip report when you get back and let us know how you enjoyed the spa.

This was a local sweeps sponsored by Johnson & Johnson. I got to choose between a caribbean cruise for 4 or a trip to Disney for 4. It also includes air tickets, rental car, and tickets to Universal, IOA, Magic Kindom and Epcot.

Yes, you do tip the person who performs your spa service...just like at a restaurant 15 to 20 percent.

Enjoy!

HI,

Needed to kill some time while waiting for friends in Nov and decided to check out GF Spa. It was an unbelievable experience! Did a foot bath, manicure and facial. It came to out $175, a chunk of change, I know, but I figured it was a once in a lifetime. Anyhoo I would love to get back there again!!!!! LOL! The woman I had did a wonderful job and I left her $20. Enjoy! You will love it, it was my first time as well.

A $20 tip on a $175 bill is quite low, especially if you were really pleased with the service.

$35 or even a bit more would have been more appropriate.

You should tip 15-20%, a little more if you loved the service, a little less if the attendent was more of an attendant as opposed to a therapist...

ie--if you are taking a "Magic Garden bath" (I made that up) where the attendent is filling the tub and adding some sort of oils and aromatherapy, but not doing anything hands on...they get you into the bath and then hand you a towel twenty minutes later, then in that case 10% is fine.

But for hands on treatments such as massages, facials, manicures/pedicures, etc. 15-20% is appropriate.

For the massage you are talking about, I woud tip between $25 and $30, depending on how much I thought the therapist was really trying to give me a great experience v. doing his/her job.
