We usually go in October to Disney. I just discovered from another thread that schools over many states are now doing fall breaks which many fall in October. What do you guys think, is October going to be a soon busy time now too?

My family and I have been going in October for many years because we enjoy the fall themes, MNSSHP and most importantly the low crowds

What's everyone's predictions... ?

We have been going in October for years, and every year it gets more crowded. Last year was the most crowded I've seen, but it still beats summer.

Yes, I think there will be an impact. Josh's site shows about a 1 point increase for each of the days I plan to be there over the same days in 2013. I've never been to WDW with a crowd level of over 6 before and now some days are projected at 7.

Last October was very busy, it used to be my favorite month at Disney, now it's very popular.

Yep. We've always gone in October because we had a couple of days off for Fall break. Now that so many more school have break, and most of the schools around us get 2 weeks off in October, it's gotten steadily busier.

+1. So true. We have always gone is oct cause I have that week off in the schools. Our pre-k is on break Columbus week and every year busier and busier. Still is an awesome time to go. My favorite!

Hmm, I haven't heard about these new "fall" breaks.

Why the need? Most schools go back last week of August first week of Sept. Are these schools going year round now?

Anyway, our annual trip was usually the 2nd week of November and it was great. It was always empty, then over the past decade or so it started to become more and more crowded and really took away from how much we had enjoyed the non crowded time.

Now we have 4 years until our last child is out of HS and we will be able to go in those great September weeks when schools head back and the Parks are empty.

Yes I definitely think there is an impact. Last year our school started doing a small fall break in October (Thursday/Friday). It almost got me to book our trip in October but alas to meet up with family we will be there in hot crowded June!

Last year we did October. I didn't know about the new breaks. It was to crowded for me. This year we are ditching from school for a week in September. Less crowds, more value for the money IMO.

At first I was a little upset when I realized everyone goes in October for fall break now. I was excited to go to WDW with low crowds! But since my last trip was in June and I thought it was fine crowd-wise, I'm just expecting the same. :)

No fall breaks in NYC. I wish we had a fall break. I would really love to go back in Oct. My first trip ever was in Oct 1997 (pink castle anyone?). The weather was great and F&W was in its infancy and nowhere near what it is today. I really want to return in Oct to enjoy the current F&W.

The first full week in Oct is when most of KY has fall break and when we have done WDW for the last several years. Not only have crowds gotten worse and worse that week but Disney has excluded that week from discounts the last couple years.... I don't expect it to improve :(

Our family began our Disney adventures on fall break of 2005. It does seem that it has become more crowded as the years have ticked by. It is a beautiful time to be there. However, I have no other time period to compare it to.

Where I am from (WI near the Twin Cities in MN) there were always breaks for the annual teachers union conventions in October. WI and MN were on Thursday and Friday about a week apart in October. Some school districts also had Columbus day off. Ours does not. Districts that begin school in August sometimes extend these already scheduled days off by adding a "fall holiday".

Say the teacher convention is on the Thursday and Friday preceding Columbus day, why not add Wednesday before for a "fall holiday". It's kind of like "fall break creep".

Fall breaks are not new for us. My oldest is in 11th grade and we have always had a full week off in October. We have relocated several times and lived in several different states.

I grew up in IN and we never started school that late, and we never had a Fall break. Here in OH, my kids start Aug. 21 and get out June 5. We get one week for Fall break and one week for Spring break. My nieces and nephews in Indiana moved to a balanced schedule for the first time this year. They started school on August 1, and get two weeks off in October and a two week Spring break (though now they will only get one week because of the snow days). They also get out in early June.

I live in indiana and our school went to a balanced calendar starting this school year we get a 2 week break in October at Christmas and 2 week spring break which starts Monday here we get out May 30th but go back to school on July 29th

our schools have been doing a fall break since 1998 ... and my family has gone to WDW annually every October since 1999, with the exception of October 2001 when DD was born.

the crowds have grown, but the waits are still short. it's a perfect time to visit!

our first day of school is either August 5 or 6. we will have been in school a full grading period when we have fall break in early October.
