Do you think people will cancel because of the threat?

Being the thrifty person I am, I was wondering if people would be too afraid to fly and cancel or postpone their trip. If this happens, would my car rental rate go up or down? If demand is low, I would imagine my rate would go down but I had to take Econ twice in college so I don't trust my reasoning.
I'm not cancelling my trip and we leave next Saturday.

I am not cancelling because that is exactly what they want us to do. Don't get me wrong, I in no way want to risk my families lives or anything but I think the way the world is today, it is so important to just live your life to the fullest. Who knows what tomorrow will bring for any of us. We are leaving on Tues. out of Boston. The only thing that does bother me, is that my 17 yr old will not be with us for this trip. That kind of freaks me out a little-and I know if he hears about the threats he too will be freaked and want us to stay home. My other 2 kids that are going have not heard about the threat and I hope and pray that they don't because they will not want to go.

It's a choice every person has to make for himself or herself and family. I can't live my life or change my plans based on what awful thing may occur during the course of the day or trip. Nothing we do in this world is without some sort of risk. Manage it as you see fit.

I don't get it... I mean, its not "we are still not safe" it is "WE WILL NEVER BE SAFE"... there will always be threats to us... our world changed on 911- forever. Now that said, I will live life as I always do/did. I am heading to WDW, getting there is in God's hands and always has been! JMHO

We went to Hawaii 11 days after 9/11 and if I can do that then no problem with this. You aren't safe on the roads. I live in the Napa Valley and 1 in 3 are under the influence here at all times.

We're considering flying the first week in September if we find a bargain.

We were in Florida the week of 9/11. Flying out the following Saturday. I remember people were terrified to fly. They were trying to get car rentals to drive back home. I felt sorry for them. Still, the lines the day we flew out were incredible. Probably because of previous flight cancellations and delays. I remember we were standing in line behind a couple of police officers (husband and wife) who were going to help at the WTC site.

We won't stop flying.

I have to fly to FL on Wednesday because my children are there. Even so, I would not give up our long-anticipated birthday celebration at WDW. With the increased security we most likely are safer than travelers were just last week! (Safe being a very relative term, of course.)

I am watching for an airline sale in the next few weeks.... If you were going to Europe I could almost gurantee one. However, I think there will be one in the US soon. Americans tend to get skittish quickly (they also recover quickly) and it doesn't take much to send the airlines into a tailspin.

I was on one of the first planes out of BNA after 9/11 and shortly after that I got the BEST deal ever to MCO. (something like 19 each way on SW, CHEAP rental car, GREAT Disney hotel discounts and basically a private park!)

Driving over from Birmingham today I saw two major accidents.... I feel safer in the friendly skies then on the US interstate system... No drunks, no 18 wheelers, no folks who think that the speed limit signs are "suggestions" for minimum speed!

Miles flown over the past 5 years = approximately 250,000+

Airline accidents I have had in that time = zero

Car accidents I have had in that time = five

(I happen to drive a very large magnet on wheels, in case you are wondering.... )

Im not afraid, Im glad security is tightened. I think they were getting a little lazy if you ask me...I was stopped because they found scissors in my carryon . They found out they were in a medical kit, but they let me keep them!!! Its like, HELLO!!!

I admit it makes me nervous but not nervous to fly. Nervous because there are terrorists out there who will never stop trying to hurt innocent people. The language i have going through my head concerning them is not appropriate for this board.And the vulgar images of rage. I will fly because if we stop doing the things we love doing then they have won. I am sure the are reveling in the fact that they have caused this much panic already. So i will continue on with my daily life.

I'm hoping for a sale! I want to do a bunch of traveling before the end of the year, but haven't bought tickets yet. Airline stocks took a beating yesterday, and they'll probably have a fire sale to raise some cash.

I'm also wondering if there will be some deals out there, but on the other hand, I have to hope that the airline industry won't drop rates too much, as that would be a sign that the industry is holding its own through this. There are a lot of people out there who lost their livelihoods when the airlines made cutbacks after 9-11.

I think some people will always cancel after something like this. There have always been people out there who were hesitant to fly, period. But there have been terror attacks on planes for a long time as well. I don't recall a huge drop in travel after the Lockerbie bombing in 1988 (Pan Am 103 -- our community lost 40 people, most of them SU students who were heading home for Christmas after spending a semester abroad). We went on with life, and we did so again after 9-11, and we'll do it now too. It's okay to be afraid, but we can't let it paralyze us, because as others have said, we would let them win.

I am thankful that there is such a fuss being made yesterday and today because it means the intelligence and law enforcement communities out there are doing their jobs and uncovering these plots before they happen. Bravo to them! I think the scariest thought for me is that some people out there may have gotten complacent about the threat of terror. Al Quaeda is notorious for taking years to develop plots like these. It was just about time for something else to happen.

If I wasn't broke I'd hop on a plane right now just to show THEM!!!

People have to do what makes them comfortable. My daugter and SIL flew out of Logan to Maui on Wed they will be returning next Fri. Yeah, I'll feel better when they are back on the ground. I think we are safer now than before. My husband and I were in FL during 9/11. We were there 2 extra days. We were unable to fly back into Logan so came into Providence instead.We were the first plane to leave Fort Myers. I will be flying on 9/15 to Fort Myers and then again in Oct to WDW. We are going with DB, SIL and niece and nephew. My SIL is very nervous already,hopefully they won't cancel but people need to do what feels right for them.
