Do you think it would be dishonest to let my kids celebrate their birthdays at Disney

Do you think it would be dishonest to let my kids each take a day to celebrate their birthday at Disney, even though their birthdays will have passed by the time we take our trip? The only reason I would like to do this for them is they both gave up having a birthday party so they could go to Disney. Budget wise it would have been really hard to pay for 2 parties and go to Disney. I want it to be special for them, but I also don't want to be doing anything dishonest.

I hope I don't get flamed or anything , but I don't think that is dishonest. If it is a birthday present type trip I think that is fine! Even if it wasn't their 'present' I still think it's cool. Have fun!

I think that is a great idea. I always go 'somewhere' to celebrate my birthday and it almost never is on the actual day.

I'd say if they are comfortable with the idea then fine. You don't mention how old they are. I know DS11 & 8 would understand but DD4 would be confused as she is quite proud that she knows when her birthday is. Also, it's not like it would have any negative affect on other people's vacations.

How great to be elebrating their special days in such a wonderful place! You can go to Guest Services, I think it is, and ask for a button that says "Celebrating My Birthday." I've read that they have separate buttons that say "Today Is My Birthday." If you choose the "Celebrating" one you will be acknowledging that you are celebrating an event that may on a different day.

Ooooh...thanks for that info...we are taking DD four days after her 4th Birthday and I was hoping to celebrate her birthday the whole time. Thats so cool that I can get her a "Celebrating My Birthday" pin to wear. She loves anything to do with birthdays AND Disney. She'll be SoOoOoOo EXCITED!!!

my son and I went for his birthday trip in Dec and his birthday was in April. My son has never had a birthday party other than his 1st birthday for different reasons. Mainly because we moved on one, then our house was under construction on another so every day was his birthday there and we told them the truth. They gave us a pin to wear and a cup cake and candle at each meal. Now we are going in March. His for his birthday agian. We are traveling with a friend who's son's birthday was in Feb and he is also going for his birthday present. We plan to celebrate thier birthdays!

We will be married 15 years in early September. We wanted to renew our vows, however it is too expensive for us right now (seeing that we are spending close to $5000 on our WDW vacation as is!). So we will pick a day on our July vacation at the world and celebrate our anniversary (with the kids) and eat at the places WE want to eat - not where the kids want, do the things WE want to do - and the kids will have to smile and deal with it.

We will probably celebrat DD birthday there too. Her Bday is 3 weeks later. She wanted to go to WDW for her birthday, and going when we are going is the best we can do. What a great birthday present to have the CM's wish her Happy birthday! She will love it.

I think it's a great idea! I managed to get a pin in April last year because we went for my birthday but my birthday is March 14th. We are going for our Honeymoon in September but DFi birthday is October 17th and I plan to get him a birthday pin. Enjoy and have fun!!

Last year we were at WDW on my oldest DDs birthday when she turned 9. Her younger sister was VERY jealous of all the attention her big sister got that day. My youngest DDs birthday is Dec 24, so we will never be at WDW on her actual birthday. So we told her when we go next year (probably in Sept) we will pick a day to celebrate her birthday. She's 7 and she understands the reason why, and she has no problem pretending it's her birthday. If there was any way we could go on her actual birthday, we would; but it's way too crowded at Christmas.

We are facing the same situation next month. Oldest dd will turn 7 during the surprise trip. We are planning to celebrate her birthday while we are there. I know dd4 will be jealous. We are already dealing with jealousy issues on a daily basis because big sis gets to do more (Marsha, Marsha, Marsha )
I am considering marking one of the days for celebrating her birthday 5 months early. Thanks for the confidence. I felt like I was doing something dishonest too.

We are going August 14th - 24th and DS is going to be 4 on Sept 1. This is the only way he will get to celebrate his birthday with his grandparents (my parents) becasue they live in Florida.

Once the temp hits below 70 here in Philly they don't come up Can't understand why???

I am also doing Disney trips for my kids for their birthdays this year. This will be the first trip for both of them. My dd's bday is mid-July, but I am taking her in early June. My ds bday is early Oct., but we are celebrating his in mid Nov. I would love to be there on the actual days, but that just wasn't an option. The trip is the gift this year - no bday party with friends this year, (on the actual day, we might do pizza or something, but they understand - this is a big deal and they are very excited)
When I take my dd, we are doing breakfast at 1900 Park Fare. When I made my ADR, I was asked if we are celebrating a special occasion. I said we are celebrating her bday, even though it isn't for another month, and the CM said she was still noting we were celebrating a bday.
So go ahead, have fun!!!!!

I have the same problem. Our trip is scheduledfor the 2nd time during our oldest Ds birthday. I plan on making the twins "Today is my Unbirthday" shirts to wear one day and we will celebrate a special day for them.

I don't really go for celebrating kids birthdays months before or months after. Ds' birthday is June 23 and we are going to Disney June 28. My in-laws are coming with us and we are having his family birthday party there. DD (8) was able to celebrate her birthday when we were there for the marathon. THis left other dd out in the cold. Her birthday is in September and we won't be able to be back. What I decided to do was to order a "Very Merry Unbirthday" cake and have a Unbirthday party for her one day during the trip. This way we won't be pretending but she will still feel special!

I don't think it's dishonest at all.

We are going next year at the beginning of May. My youngest DD will be 4 on March 29th and older DD will be 6 May 25th. Since we're going somewhere in the middle, we'll celebrate both birthday's while there. We'll buy them something there for their birthday or do something special like the Bibbity Boutique thing. They won't get anything from us at home.

Well it's nice and warm out today at 50 degrees, so I get to scoop poop that's been sitting in the snow. Lovely.

There is nothing wrong with it at all, and you have no reason to feel guilty. It is very common and the fact of the matter is you are CELEBRATING his birthday on that day! It does not have to be their actual birthday.
Last year my oldest son was celebrating his un-birthday Oct. 5th. If you don't know what an un-birthday is, it came from a disney movie -Pooh maybe or Alice in Wonderland ? My son was 10 and 1/2 that day. Well anyway, he had gotten a birthday pin and he was having his picture taken with a couple of characters and they saw his pin and made the biggest deal out of it. They sang him a song and all right there in Adventureland. Anyway, at the end of all that he goes and tells them it wasn't really his birthday!! I was instantly so embarrased and wondered what they would say, but he told them it was his unbirthday and they loved it! It was great!
