Do you think DCL will sail to Cuba?

With the announcement of Norwegian and Royal Carribean sailing to Cuba this Spring, do you think Disney will follow suit? I'd definitely be interested in seeing Havana and would love to go on DCL if the price wasn't outrageous. Any thoughts?

Just my personal opinion, but, no I don't think so.

But, referring to the "would love to go on DCL if the price wasn't outrageous" comment - yeah, that's not going to happen. DCL prices are higher than similar cruises on other lines just to start with.

Of course a lot is going to depend on what happens after January 20 considering some promises made period.

Going to Cuba on fathom over Christmas I can tell you that the port taxes and fees are considerably higher than pretty much any other place. There is also a visa requirement. And then there are the requirements set forth by the state department as to the reasons you are allowed to go - it's not just a go and lay on the beach kind of trip. This is one case where ship excursions make things much easier because that (assuming RCCL and NCL use a similar people to people model) means you just complete the affidavit that you participated in the pre-arranged and approved activities. If you choose to do your own touring (which has been an option with fathom...which is ceasing to exist at the end of May) you a) have to ensure that your guide is a LICENSED tour guide, b) keep a DETAILED journal of everything you do, c) keep ALL receipts of everything you do - and hold onto them for at least 5 years.

Anything is possible I guess. If it did happen I doubt it would be before the new ships set sail.

Yes but we all know DCL is very very slow in coming out with new ports. My guess will be 8-12 years

And the Royal cruises are, from what I read, at least 1K more than another itinerary same number of nights same ship. So I cannot even imagine the Disney upcharge.

Considering how close we got to Havana on our last cruise (closer, it seems, than most cruises come) I wouldn't be surprised if they're gauging interest and will do it possibly once the new ships arrive. We were within 5 nm of the city and could clearly see Havana (and the dual waterspouts that were just east of the city). It was pretty cool timing that we were mixing mojitos in a private Mixology class just as Havana came into view.

Yes, DCL will eventually sail to Cuba.

I have never been to Cuba although as a Canadian it's always been easy to do so, and many of my friends and family have done vacations there. I'd be interested in a cruise stop just to get a taste of it!

Again, the taxes and port fees for Cuba are super high - at least for ships coming from the US. THAT is often the difference in the cost - and something the cruise line has no control over.

I pulled out my fathom stuff for Cuba and for the DR to see.
DR taxes and port fees - 133.63
Cuba taxes and port fees - 283.00

And my Magic cruise to Key West and Castaway - 102.74
