Do you think a 1BR would be avail. at BCV or BWV, Dec. 1-8?

I have an AP rate ($169 bf tax) at BWI for Dec. 1-8. I've been scouring the Points to Rent Board and it seems as if points can be had for $8 - 10 ea. This would mean a 1 BR for anywhere from $1300 - $1600 at BWV or $1600 - 2000 at BCV (if my calc. are right.) Gosh, this sounds so much nicer than a reg. room!

Question is... IF I could work out the points with someone, would those 7 nights be available? Is it even worth the looking into, and getting my OCD self all excited about? It seems as if early Dec. is the popular time for DVCers. That's why I'm so concerned.

Any thoughts are most appreciated!

I just wanted to be first, sorry for the short post.

The first two weeks of December are the hardest time of the year to get in...even harder than Christmas week.

We used to have a lottery for Christmas week, but it didn't even fill up and there are usually room available during that time even at seven months.

We go almost every year during that time. It really is my favorite time of year to visit. My wife thinks its too close to christmas and throws her holiday off, but I am the one who makes the reservations, so she doesn't get much say.

Man, I am glad she doesn't read this board very often.

Rich is basically right of course, but the situation with BCV is unclear. We had good luck with waitlisting, beginning in early June for either studio or 1BR, accepting any days during our stay. Filling in a day or two at a time, by early July we had a 1BR for Dec 7-13.

The issue here is that they cannot reserve more rooms on points than have been sold so far. As more of BCV is sold, additional rooms are becoming available even at the most popular times. Of course there are no promises, and you should have a good backup plan if you decide to try this.

PS: I'd be thrilled with BWI at that rate.

A standard view at BWV would be very hard to get, so you can't count on the lower price, preferred would be the same price as BCV. I had to call day by day in January for my BWV 1 bedroom standard Dec 7 to 13. The only chance you may have at BWV is if someone is renting an existing reservation, I think there was an ad for one a couple of weeks ago on the rental board. I don't know if a points renter would want to fool around with the waitlist for you. For the heck of it, I checked Expedia for cash availability at this time. BCV has a 1 bedroom for $385. No 1 bedrooms at BWV, just a studio for $289. Your best chance on points would be at BCV.

ONe thing that does give a ray of hope is that BCV is not sold out yet. There is a chance that they will declare more rooms into inventory and that they will become available.

My advice is to keep your BWI reservation for this year and concentrate on all the fun you will have!

The key point is that there are already waitlists for the first two weeks of December at both BWV and BCV. As DebbieB posted, most owners who rent points are not going to want to bother with a waitlist if they can find someone to rent points for a time that is available to book immediately. It's just too risky - the waitliist may not come through and meanwhile they miss opportunities to rent their points. If someone is willing to rent at $8/point, the points are probably going to expire fairly soon. Again, they won't want to chance losing the points by hoping that a waitlist will come through in time.

If you're going again next year and want to stay at one of the EPCOT DVC resorts, plan to look for points 12 -13 months ahead of time. That way the owner can make a ressie for you at the 11 month mark. It's really the only way to ensure a ressie for this time. Plan on paying at least $10/point, maybe as much as $13 to book at the 11 month window.

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you, even if it wasn't really what I wanted to hear. Believe me, I am THRILLED with my BWI rate. And, honestly, I don't know if I'm prepared to go through all the hassle to try the other way.

The best I can hope for is that DH will want to do the tour while we're there. Then, maybe next time I'll have my own points!
