Do you stay offiste on 10+ days vacations

How do you do use points on 7+ day vacations

  • We never go on DVC vacations that last that long.

  • I check out on Friday and recheckin on Sunday

  • We go in the low point seasons to maximize our points

  • It's a vacation dummy, I want to enjoy myself, points be dammed

We are planing on starting longer vacations in the future starting next year. My question is it seems like alot of you stay off-site or in one of the WDW hotels on a Friday/Saturday night to save points. Well what do you do on long vacation such as 10 days or longer?

Depending on when you arrive you will either have 1 weekend or 2 to deal with and I want to here how you solve (or save) the weekend point situation. I find it hard to believe that if you arrived on a Sunday for a 10 day vacation you would pack up 5 days later to save points for 2 days( Friday/Saturday) and then recheck-in on Sunday for the next few days. It seems like it would be such a pain expecially if you have any young kids.

I think I will include a poll in this one.

Sincerely,

Jack

We knew with the kids school schedule we wouldn't want to pull them out of school too much. So we schedule our vacation during a week when they get a Friday off for something called Teacher Workshop Day. These occur every other month. This way we can leave on Friday after school and go for 9 nights and the kids only have to take 4 days off school. This also means we pay for 4 weekend nights and 5 week day nights. We planned for this when we bought our points. I don't like to move around, we tried this and didn't like it!

Since we need to buy plane tickets, we go for longer vacations, usually 2 weeks. Our first vacation home we changed rooms a couple of times just within the same resort (different size rooms). After that, I pretty much put the kabosh on it.

I just love the luxury of a 2-bedroom. Our family of five would need to rent two rooms if we moved out on the weekends.

What we do is arrive on a Saturday, stay in a Disney hotel that night, check into the DVC resort Sunday..and stay there until checkout the following Sunday.

No, I made sure we have enough points to stay at DVC ALL the days we want to! I HATE off site digs, and never plan to do them again unless I decide to visit Tampa or Miami or Fort Myers on one end or the other of a trip.

We have enough points for a one bedroom for 7 days, and choose not to move out for the weekends, that's why I did that add-on!!! If we decded to come down for more than a week, we prefer to, we'll just stay for a few nights at a WDW hotel (might try Universal next year) and then check into our villa.

We always stay offsite for our first 4 nights- usually through priceline or every other year we go to Universal for the beginning of our trip. We check into DVC on Sunday-Thursday and then always arrive back home on Friday.

We originally bought thinking we would do 1 trip per yr, for 5 days... but discovered we really prefer 10+ days instead. So we go every other yr. Typically, we use Fri & Sat to get ourselves "closer" to WDW. (Pit stops along way w/ family, or a hotel, etc.) We check in on Sunday and then somewhere between Wed and Fri, making a nice 10-12 day stay out of it. We then use the rest of that week to weave our way north, back home!

We bought a small add-on to assure us of this plan (and even allow us to squeak in a Tgiving HH trip now and then!) We almost ALWAYS get a 2 br. We are actually planning on switching resorts this next trip (1 Sat night on cash at BCV, then 8 nts at BWV, then back again to BCV), but it has nothing to do with the pts. Our "guests" are buying the cash night (they want to try BCV, and this will help us get an early check in at BWV yet allow us to use SAB that SUnday!) ANd after our guest leave, we added the extra 3 nts at BCV just for our fam to try it out, so we are stepping down to a 1 br. Normally dh and I despise the concept of switching resorts, but we all wanted a taste of both resorts, and this seemed like a way to have it! We'll see how it goes!

(ANd no, we don't do the off-site thing, other than hotels outside Orlando on our trip down.)

With out first contract we bought enough for 7days at BWV std view, weekend-included. Leter, we doubled up our points with our second contact.

Normally we don't do more than 9-days at a time. We don't worry about weekend rates, unless we're staying less that 7-day. In that case we try to avoid the weekends.

We are still getting into our routine.............. after our huge May mom trip in Feb (we booked 13 rooms) and things settle down from that (meaning we are now borrowed out to the hilt! LOL).......

Our plan is to spend Fri and Sat at a Disney Resort(cash) then 7-9 nights in a 2 bedroom villa, at least twice a year and at least two NO PARK, long weekends, trip a year.

We have enough points to do two weekends a trip, but we also love the Disney resorts (esp the Deluxes), so we will keep them in our plans, taking advantage of the point savings.

I voted the last category. I planned for staying at a DVC resort on the weekends. Because of our travel schedule, it just works out that we spend only one weekend out of 12 day trip in a DVC resort.

We have always checked in on a Sunday and stayed in the villa for 12 nights (checking out on a Friday)... this way we get a long vacation & use points over one weekend.....

What did I just hear???? STAY OFF SITE????? Off-site? Where is that? HA! NEVER!!

Call me a Disney snob, but I I would never even consider staying off-site, EVER.
