Do you send out Christmas Cards?

The last few years I have noticed more and more people not sending out Christmas cards. They sight various reasons for doing so. My list has gotten smaller it seems each year. I send a card and newsletter to everyone who sends us a card plus a few who don't anymore but are still very important to us. My list right now it stands at about 35. If you do send out cards, how many do you do each year?

We send out an e-letter to all who we know that check their e-mails regularly...along with our online photo site- so people can view our pictures from the year. We do still have a few people from our families that don't have e-mail or don't check it often, and we send that same e-letter to them just in printed form along with one or two pictures of our girls. That works out well for us and it saves us about $40 in postage alone!

My list has gotten smaller each year. Last year we were so busy preparing for DD to come home that we just didn't even send them! This year I will send a small amount - I'm figuring about 15 cards.

I use to send 50 cards about 10 years ago but I just finished mine up and this year there are only 39. I still like sending a card through the mail. It makes me smile to recieve something in the post that is not a bill or junk.:)

No we don't send out cards normally. One year we did get our pictures taken at Portrait Inovations and 6 of those picture postcards were included in the package. I mailed a couple of those but normally we don't do cards. Lots of DH's family does send cards. We get some in the mail and some are just handed to us. I hardly have the time and to me it is a waste of money and paper. Maybe if family wasn't local I would do it but all our family is close and we see them regularly. Last year I did let the girls make some cards with construction paper and foam christmas shaped stickers. We used them as name tags on gifts and they made special ones for grandma/pa.

I never really felt obliged to in the past, as I'm still young... (25) but this is our DD's first 'Christmas'. Next week I'm going to take her to have pictures done, and hopefully one of those will be good enough to do photocards with.

I'll probably only order maybe 20, and send it to our closest family members.

I'm a bad mom, though, I didn't even send birth announcements. :rolleyes1

I still send out cards, only about 25 though. I just love to receive them at Christmas that I still send them out.:santa:

Because I love to receive them, I figure I better send them! But, I really hate it when someone with kids sends me a card with no picture in it! The fun now is seeing how the kids are growing and changing, not to just read words on a page. I must say though, the newsletters are a big turn-off. They're really just a chance for the parents to really, really, really brag about their kids and it becomes laughable sometimes. But I still like the pictures!:goodvibes

We still send cards, too. I love to get Christmas Cards from friends and family - and yes, I'd much rather get one with a picture or two!

As for the newsletters, most of them are cheesy, but we're getting this card (http://my3cuties.com/item_1387/Holiday-Dots--Photo-Holiday-Card.htm) this year so the "newsletter" won't be *as* cheesy (I hope!).

we send out about 40 cards

it depends who gets them if we have gotten one from them the year before

joyce

I used to, but I got sick of sending out all those cards and getting so few back. It made me depressed and angry because people I care about apparently cared so little they couldn't spend a couple lousy bucks on cards and stamps. I feel bad though because now I don't send to the couple people who do send cards, but it wasn't worth it. What can I do, buy a box of cards to send out 3 cards?

oh and I was sending out about 25 cards and getting 2-5

Im into internet today that's why I prefer sending ecards because it's much convenient especially if preparations for the holidays consume so much of your time.

Yes I send out Christmas cards, because I am expected to ;)

"I always did it when you were in school and put a school picture in it, why can't you"? Urgh!!

However oldest DS will be a senior next year and our younger one will be a freshman. Once they are out of school, I am not sure how many I will send.

And truth be told, I know what I do with the cards I receive when I am taking down the Christmas decorations :scared1: AND what on earth do you do with all the pictures of other people. Some we have not seen or spoke with in years? :confused3

And school pictures are SO :teacher: expensive! for 1 8X10 it was $10.00! Then the grands need this, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends...

It is expected that they be SCHOOL pictures, not from Sears, Wally... learned that lesson when oldest was very young :guilty:

Anywho, I send out 20-25 :santa:

Sorry to be so negative this morning :surfweb:

Yes, we still send them. Usually I send out the traditional card, with a picture of the kids inside and a note. For the past two years, I have noticed that mostly I receive photo cards with just a signature and no message. A few people do send news letters, which I love getting! Everyone has elemenary age kids, so I guess they are all too busy.
So this year I ordered photo cards too! But I plan to write a little note on the back! I think I usually send out 24-30 each year.

For about the last 4 years we have taken a vacation during the down week before Christmas, typically the 15-20th (cruise or Disney trip) which is great for price but makes it REALLY hard to get things done for Christmas. I usually end up sending our card out as an email, but I do at least attempt to get them in the mail or deliver them in person to my closest friends and family. :santa:

Maybe I'm crazy but I send between 80 & 100 cards every year (ordered from snapfish with photos of my children). I think we receive about as many back too - mostly with photos. Our refrigerator is usually covered with cute little (and not so little any more) faces. It is one of my favorite things about Christmas - getting to see how much all of the children have grown, especially those we don't get to see very often :santa:

We still send out cards - have been doing so since DH and I married 6 years ago. I'm the only one of my 5 siblings that does though. Now it's a nice way to keep distant family updated on our two kiddos - we always send photo cards.
Personally, I enjoy receiving Christmas cards! IMO it's a simple, thoughtful gesture to help keep family and friends connected at least once a year.

Just reading more of this thread and am hoping that those who only send to the people who send to you...think twice about that, especially for certain people. I have lots and lots of aunts and uncles and friends of my parents who absolutely love to see the pictures of the kids (and they've known me since I was little) and get the Christmas greetings...but they don't send out because of financial reasons or whatever. I never *expect* a card...I send out because I want to wish them a Merry Christmas and share pictures of my kids they never see - I don't send because I want in return. If you want to share Christmas wishes, do it because you want to, not because you want something back. Just a thought...

We send out about 40-50 cards each year with an update and sometimes a photo. We've noticed a lot don't do it anymore, but we stay with our tradition. Cards aren't pricey (you can get boxes of nice ones at the dollar store) and postage isn't THAT bad. I figure the most valuable thing is my time and I can surely spend a few precious minutes to let my friends and family know we are thinking about them.
