Do you run every day when you are training?

I was wondering how others here train. Do you run one day yes and one day no?

I follow Jeff Galloway's running plan. I have 30 minute runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, easy walks on Fridays, and long runs on Sundays (mileage will vary depending on where you are in the plan). I don't run in between those training days. I do some cross training, though.

I run four days a week, usually M/T/W (right now 4-7-4) and long runs on Saturdays.

I would do five days a week but I don't want to be too overwhelmed for training for my first marathon, so I am just doing Hal Higdon's Novice 2 plan which is four days a week.

Right now I'm ramping up to peak training for the WDW half. For me, that means six days a week. Right now I do something like:

M: 6
Tu: 10
W: 6 speed
Th: 6am & 6pm
F: 6
Sa: 18

It's a pretty intense schedule and I obviously don't run like that year round. During the rest of the year I run four days during off season and five when I'm starting to think about racing again. Honestly I don't really like running quite that much, but it gets me to my goals so . . .

I am in the beginning of training for me first 1/2. I do an easy 30 minute run on mondays, a good run wed and fri (5k or 10k) and then a long run on Sunday (increasing a mile or so every week). I bike a couple miles on tue and thur, but I am planning on switching to yoga on tuesdays and pilates on thursday.

I'm about to start training for my first two halfs. I will be running 4 days a week with one day cross training. I will do walking or the elliptical those days. Running everyday would just be too much I think.

I enter races just to do so, so my schedule for training is not set in stone.

I would think your physical condition, upcoming events and expected event results should determine your per day mileage and number of days running and cross training.

I get out for 10K(+) walking at a 10/11mpm pace once or twice a week then 13+/- on Sunday and bike ride once to three times a week for 55 to 90+ miles each ride. Swimming, once to three times also.

Have a Half Ironman Triathlon in 4 days and kept to that schedule. Space Coast Marathon in 5 weeks and will ramp up my walking miles for it and my Dopey in January. Then back to getting ready for a March Half Ironman Tri.

If I enter the Fl. IM I will then start a specific training schedule.

I run every day, regardless of whether a race is on the horizon or not. That said - I don't recommend it for anyone who has not been running for at least a year, and preferably longer.

For most people, I recommend 3-5 days of running, with 1-2 days of cross-training, and a day of rest. For a novice runner, 3 days of running, and a day or two of cross, is more than sufficient.

Here's my schedule, generally:

Sun - Hard intervals/fartleks/ladders
Mon - Rest
Tue - Hard intervals/fartleks/ladders
Wed - Swim
Thu - Easy run
Fri - Hard long run
Sat - Easy run

not every day, but I do workout 5-6 days a week. I agree that new runners should not run every day.

M- 45 min yoga, 30 min walk on treadmill or elliptical
T- 50 min run
W- 30 min weights, 30 min other cardio, 45 min yoga
R-50 min run
F- weights and 30 min cardio or pool run
S- long run
Sun--off

Sometimes I take Friday off as well. :)

I've been running and entering races for about 5 years and I don't run every day. 3-4 at most. I'm doing Galloway to survive Goofy and it's working really well. Shorter runs on M and W, maybe F then long run on Saturday. My body and mind need the break and I find myself WANTING to go for a run, instead of I HAVE to go for a run.

Nope. 4 days of running, 2 days of strength training and one total rest day. I try to get to yoga here and there but have been pretty bad about it lately. :guilty:

That actually happened to me last weekend. I was in shock. Saturday is my rest day. It was kind of a slow day, chores, errands, that sort of thing and my mind kept telling me to go out for a run. It got really annoying, but it was awesome at the same time. I guess I am finally becoming a runner! :dance3:
