Do you ride the WDWRR just for fun or is it efficient transportation?

Thinking we could take the train the day we will likely end at HM and ride to the the front of the park. But we'll have 2 double strollers so would it be "easier" just to walk. The kids would think the train is fun but don't want to do it on a day everyone is tired and just needs to leave. How do you use the train?

We don't use it much at all. I really enjoy it, but from an efficiency standpoint, it's far quicker to walk. It's also often very crowded, so if we're trying to get somewhere, it's not worth the wait. For us, it's entertainment/relax time.

That's kind of what I was thinking and remembering from years ago. We have a morning that won't be RD and we'll likely arrive around 9:30 (9:00 opening) and heading to Frontierland first for 10:00 FP. So was thinking if the train works at all that might be the morning to use it.

We ride the train when we are tired and need a break and will often get off the same stop we got on. The train ride is certainly enjoyable and fun but the last few times we have been, we have not been able to jump right on the train. We had to wait for the second train to get on and it was quite crowded when we did. I can tell you right now, 2 double strollers will be a PIA to get on the train... i certainly wouldn't do that for transportation to the main gate... but if its slow enough that day and your strollers are rather compact, you might not have an issue.

We are renting the double Citi Minis so I know they fold easily but there's nothing easy about strollers in the park other than saving the kids some steps and keeping crankiness at bay lol!

I definitely wouldn’t go out of my way to get on it to ride to the front of the park. You have to go out of your way to get on it from HM so unless it is simply the last “attraction” you want to do I’d find another time to do it or skip it. Riding it from Main Street to Frontierland would be a good idea if you aren’t in a hurry the one morning. We usually ride the train when we are near one of the stops and want to sit and relax for a while (we will then ride it round trip for a nice break).

I guess it really is mainly for fun. Plus have to be right near one of the access points to consider it too. Like you are at Splash Mountain and are heading to Main Street and don't have any time constraints.

We always do a round trip with it because most times, it's not really efficient to get us where we want to go. I think the only time we used it to get to the front was when we rode Splash and were leaving right after.

We enjoy the train, but the last couple of times we have had to split up and sit in two separate rows because it has been very full. We're only a family of four with one stroller. If it's something the kids really want to do, then don't skip it. If speed is the main reason it will be much faster to walk from HM to the front..potentially 30+ minutes faster.

We ride for fun. The one time we wanted to use it for transportation reasons it was a 45 minute wait. lol

If you are at HM by time you'd walk to the train stop at Splash you might as well walk to the front.... I'd guess it's pretty close to the same distance.
The only way I'd use the train as "transportation" would be if I was right at the stop... ie. at Splash, or by Dumbo or Barnstormer AND if it didn't look like it had a line!
We will ride it mostly for fun and a break, but only if we see it's not going to be packed. Nothing worse than being crammed on those benches with a bunch of hot, sweaty cranky strangers.
We love the train.... very traditional and nostalgic WDW! But it can easily eat up 45 minutes.... definitely NOT a time saver.

we are also "ride it for fun" people - it's nice to just relax while riding and see the scenery....but only do it if we have time, not every trip.

We hop to WS every afternoon during Food&Wine so on our MK morning day we'll often end our rides at BTMRR. When that happens we'll catch the train to Main Street to save the feet, rest up for WS and to just enjoy the ride.
