Do you ride anything during HHN?

I am making plans to buy our tickets for HHN. We will be there during the day so I was getting the add-on tickets. I was planning on getting the express pass for HHN for DH, DS(15) & DD(17). I wasn't planning on going in the houses so I didn't think I would need the express pass. The only thing I thought about is the rides. We probably will ride everything during the day. We are staying on-site so will have express for daytime. Would we prorbably not even ride anything during HHN?

I don't ride anything during HHN. I can ride during the day. HHN is all about the houses and since they are only around for a short time, I concentrate on the houses.

HHN usually has 8 houses,2-3 shows and 5-6 scare zones with the houses having long waits and the shows scattered at random times,if you ride the rides the chances of being able to see all the houses and shows for HHN are very, very slim. With that said the rides that are open still have plenty of people riding and usually long waits as well.I have an AP so I Obviously won't be riding any of the rides,I would assume the people in the ride lines might not be able to ride the rides too frequently. If you get the express pass for HHN I would assume you should have time to do some of the rides as well as the houses and shows if you plan your time right.

By the second night, after I've been twice to every house (four total), seen the shows, gone through every scarezone, and have had some good drinks, then I go on Jaws. I love Jaws on night.
At least once on MIB and th Simpsons! but this is only on one of the two days I attend.

To the OP, expect 4 or 5 rides to be open during HHN: Jaws, ROTM (Revenge Of The Mummy), The Simpson's, MIB and possibly HRRR (Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rocket). With both Jaws and HRRR being outdoor rides, they offer different experiences at night, so are worth riding during HHNs. As the other 3 are indoors, I suggest skipping them during HHNs and riding them during the day.

The onyl ride I would attempt to do is Jaws, since its a different experience at night.....and I think they use a little more fire too! :thumbsup2

During HHN I ALWAYS make a point of riding Jaws. In the dark it seems like a different ride. It's scarier, the fire effects are much more pronounced and during HHN the skippers tend to have more of a laugh with you. Last year when riding it the effects kept not working so we got to go around three times. :thumbsup2

I also go on The Simpsons during HHN but only if it's walk on.

True... That... and the fact that I have several Vodka tonics in me. :rotfl2:

I always ride the attractions. Never an issue with an Express Pass.

With all of the wonderful comments, I think we will probably skip most rides. I won't get myself an express pass since I have no interest in the houses. I will get them for the rest of the family so they can get through the houses better. I may ride Jaws while they are touring houses

even when i have tickets for 4 nights for hhn, i still concentrate on the houses, zones, shows.

there are two teams for each house.
Team A
Team B

different teams can make a difference in those houses.
antics in the houses are forever changing.

I remember I went with two different teams for the Saw house in 2009. There was a big difference!

I´ll admit I love going on the Mummy, Simpsons, and MIB a little tipsy... :rolleyes1

Last year it was midnight (opening weekend) and I was the last one riding MIB while the parks were emptying out. It was fun trying to aim being tipsy.... The TM sold me the ride picture for 4 bucks cheaper (my RPR key had maxed out for the night) and I had 12 bucks (picture was like 16). He chipped in the rest (how nice) and he even threw a couple of aliens in the seats beside mine (I was all alone) plus the HHNXX logo.
That was nice, and I had forgotten all about that. :goodvibes

Not only does cast A/B make a difference, but so do the set times! Sometimes a cast B set will be perfectly timed, then a later cast B set of the same house can be all wonky. Sometimes both A&B will be solid, sometimes both will be tired.

I always try to see both sets, unless I have a particular Reason to see one set over another... :darth:

Most attractions have 5-10 minute waits during HHN. I agree with most that JAWS has the longest wait time because of the difference at night. HRRR could be open this year I dunno.

Typically, I don't, but last year we did a couple rides cause my friend needed a little break, granted by this time of the night we had been in all of the houses at least once, a few twice, and we saw Bill and Ted, so we did a few rides. We were able to do all of the houses twice (some even three times! Yay empty night!)

At HHN, my goal is to see the houses and scarezones as many times as possible. Casts change around frequently, and each time through a house will garner a new scare from an angle you may have missed while passing through the first time.

I usually purchase the Frequent Fear Plus passes w/Express to get the most out of the event and my time. Even so, I tend to avoid the rides during the evening, with the exception of Jaws. There is just something about riding Jaws during the evening. The skipper is usually more enthusiastic, and the atmosphere seems more relaxed.

exactly !!

that is why i do repeats over the days i am there for the houses.

and i try to time it not to enter the house, if possible, at the switching time of the teams.

How do you know when the cast switches are going to be to time it like that? I've been going to HHN since the mid-90s and I've never figured out a system. I, of course, have seen the cast changes while I'm outside in a queue line, but they have always appeared to be randomly timed. I know they do it every :15 min or so -- but how do you know when that clock starts and stops?

from what scareactor friends have told me, it is based on specific times.

for example: first team (A) out will be on for a designated time, say 45 minutes.
replacement team (B) is lining up to enter the house around 5 minutes before team A set is over.

scareactors stagger going in for their place in the house.
this could take 10 minutes for all team A to leave and for team B to be in place.

after team a has their break/rest, the system begins again for their return to the houses.

i am just using the above times as an example.
sometimes team b will open the house, other times A does.

that scheduling is up to the officials that are in charge of hhn houses, etc.

i have seen the teams line up many times for the houses.
they walk to the houses in single file and stay in character.
they stagger entering the house and they're in position as smoothly as possible.

if you enter a house and have been in it prior, you might notice some scareactors are not in places where you saw them before.

if this is during a time where the teams are switching, they might not be in place at that time you are going thru.

things change throughout the entire hhn season.
could be changes in the houses with more or less scareactors, scripts, backup scareactors change for a night, etc.

when i see the teams lined up for the switching of cast, i still go thru the houses but time it so i have a better idea of when to return.

what i posted is not etched in stone.
things change all the time.
