Do you prefer the Orlando or Kissimmee Amtrak train station?

My inlaws arrived by Amtrak last time at the Orlando station. It is in the downtown area and wasn't all that great of a neighborhood. It is a very old station. I don't think I would want to be there late at night.

Does anyone know if the Kissimmee Amtrak station is any nicer?

I don't see any AMTRAK trains scheduled to arrive in Orlando late at night. The latest is the train from New Orleans (8:45). Kissimmee is actually closer to WDW (about a $40) taxi ride, I think. Orlando might have more transportation connections during the day. I have been on the train, but never gotten off there. Knew someone who came Ft. Lauderdale-Kissimmee and had no problem.

I prefer the Kissimmee station. It is closer to WDW and not as busy as Orlando. The station is old, small, and sort of run down, but it serves its purpose. (Most stations aren't pretty anyway!)

I normally make arrangements for a towncar to meet my train, and at the Kissimmee station, I can get on my way much faster than in Orlando (fewer people, smaller station). :cool1:

Thanks, I was wondering if I should tell my inlaws to try the Kissimmee station instead of the downtown Orlando station. It sounds like the Kissimmee station is better.

"Scheduled" is the key. The trains can frequently be delayed enroute, so late night/early morning arrivals can be quite common. I love travel by train, but its just a fact of life on the railroad.

Amtrack seldom runs on time, so it's quite possible it was very late at night when the train arrived.

The Orlando station is in a pretty bad part of town--there are a few worse, but it's still not a place I'd want my parents arriving day or night!

I'd opt for Kissimmee.

Thank you all. My mother may be coming with us on our July trip and she doesn't like to fly so she's thinking of taking Amtrak. I just assumed she would arrive in Orlando and never thought of Kissimee. Now it sounds like a better option to have her arrive in Kissimee. We'll have a town car service waiting there for her and we're going to take her luggage with us so she shouldn't have too much difficulty.

I remembered reading about using the Kissimmee station versus the Orlando station on the DIS boards before. I'm going to check out more info on this.

Just wondered is anyone has used the Kissimmee station recently and how was their experience there?
