After the "If I hit the powerball" thread...

Do you play the lottery?

I do ... usually just powerball/mega millions... not only when it gets really high, but here and there as well... if I'm having a really bad day at work, I walk to the corner store on my lunch and buy a ticket, with the hopes of never having to go back to my job again.

I always figure... SOMEONE has to win... why not me? So I play. If I didn't play, then I would wonder if that was the ticket that would have won...

For bdays at work, we have a lunch party for the bdays that month and we all buy the birthday people a $2 scratchoff... very little is won, but it's just for the fun of it.

Probably just wasting my money ... but it also allows me to "dream" at least until they draw the numbers ..

I only play Powerball or Megamillions when the "cash option" is over $100 million... and I only buy one Quick Pick ticket.

I play and get VERY disappointed when I don't win. I know that someone has to win and I wish it would be me. That's my ONLY hope to get out of the situation I'm in. I could work 2 full time jobs and a part time job and it wouldn't get me where I need to be :(

I'll usually play $1 or $2 on Lotto, 1 Powerball game ($2), 1 or 2 Mega Millions. I also play scratch offs. I've won $100 on a couple of scratch offs and $500 playing a number on a whim. All in all, I've probably broken even.

I play when it's big and then every now and again (when it's not big). I used to always get quick picks, but lately I try to pick numbers. I seem to have better results when I pick...I just got the powerball # on the last one I played (won $4). DH and I like to talk about the 'what if'. I also always enter the HGTV or DIY win a home contests (Urban Oasis is right now and Blog Cabin just ended). We like to talk about the 'what if' we win those too.

You realize the odds of winning are the same as being mauled by a polar bear and a regular bear on the same day...

No I don't play. I don't think I have ever purchased even a scratch ticket. I know someone has to win but like the hunger games "may the odds be ever in your favor" , I think I am more likely to die than win.

I tried to gamble once at a casino. Can't say I enjoyed myself at all. Sad. It's fun to think about though!

Well, one person won the $400 Million Dollar Power Ball jackpot last week.

The thing is, no matter WHAT you do, there are "odds". Someone WILL win the lottery jackpot -- it's just a matter of who and when.

We don't play the lottery either. We consider it to be a tax on the mathematically challenged.

DH likes to play for the entertainment value. He plays the lotto and the mega millions and buys scratchers. He can usually win a few bucks each time and has hit $100 a few times. It makes him happy and I like to make him happy so it works. While it would be lovely to win a jackpot, I am pretty sure that we never will.

Nope, I have better things I can do with a dollar here and a dollar there. As for dreaming about winning - I can just as easily dream that I inherit a ton of money without having to spend any money to enable the dream.

We play occasionally maybe 3 or 4 times a year. We are certainly not gamblers. We like our money, but when the prize starts hitting the extreme realm, the lure is too much. Well, for a buck or two, we have a good time dreaming of what we would and would not do.

I play occasionally. BUT, I don't drink, don't smoke, don't drink coffee, and don't have any other vices. So I would say on average, I spent maybe $2/month, which I think is fine.

I buy myself a powerball ticket maybe 5 or 6 times a year. When I travel to a different state, I sometimes buy about $5 worth of scratchoffs. I have to thoughts that I will ACTUALLY win, but sometimes it's fun to try. But not too often.

This is how I am. I don't buy expensive "coffee", I don't eat out all that often, I don't smoke, or many other things that people do that also "wastes" money. So, I spend a few bucks on a lottery ticket maybe once a month when the possible winnings hit an amount that I find "worth" it.

No.

I do enjoy gambling -- I love some Black Jack in Vegas -- but when I'm gamblign for fun I prefer better odds than the lottery

I don't. But then I always get mad when I'm not the big winner. 'GAH! That could've been me!'

It doesn't make sense... but tis' my brain.

Occasionally when the jackpots get so big --- like that one that was up to 700million or whatever. Could.Not.Resist!!!!

Not too often though. It'd have to come out of my personal spending money and I hate wasting my personal spending money.
