Do you pick your dinner time when you book your cruise?

Maybe I'm going crazy but do you not sign up for a dinner time when you buy your cruise? I'm 99% sure that we did in 2019 but our friends are going late Sept 2022 and told us they can't choose a dinner time until July 10th. Is that right?

I believe I signed up for late seating as I always do. My cruise is in September.

Yes, you can choose your dinner time when you book your cruise. I always do.

I just check my reservation and it has my 2nd seating choice.

it is an option when booking. It defaults to second seating and you have to change it if you want the main seating.

If you book early enough. Otherwise you’ll get second seating.

I just booked a cruise the other day and it automatically assigned me to second seating, so I went in and changed it. Sometimes Main Seating will be sold out and you'll be put on a waitlist, but I've never not had it come through.

I booked a VGT and it automatically assigned late seating. It did not give an option to change online so I had to call to change to main seating.

Adult dining bookings are based on CC level - so I booked Palo at 90 days as silver. New customers are 75 I think? The 90 days for my late September cruise is late June so 75 in early July makes sense.

The two things are completely unrelated. You can ask to change your dinner seating from the moment you book the cruise.

I realize that. My point is that possibly the family referred to in the OP was confused. They were probably given a dining time and didn’t even notice. They did notice that they couldn’t book Palo and other things until a later date.

My travel agent always picks my dinner time when she books my stateroom. She knows what I like and she doesn't have to ask me by now.
