DH had a family stone reset in a four-prong solitaire setting for my engagement ring. It's a setting I probably would have chosen, but he could have given me ANYTHING and I would have loved it. After having children, I had it reset (couldn't wear that size 5 any more!) and the jeweler talked me into six prong b/c it's "safer." I don't like the six as well as the four.

I'm not big on "sets" when it comes to rings, so we chose our wedding bands totally separately from the engagement ring.

I did not like my ring and traded it in for my 5th anniversary. It was DH's idea so I didn't feel bad. We had spent hours picking out my first ring then DH went to the store himself to purchase it. I picked a simple solitaire and made it very clear I did not want baguettes. Salesman must have wanted a bigger commission b/c he talked DH into a much more expensive elaborate setting by telling him that all girls wanted lots of diamonds and I didn't know what was in style.:confused3 Five years later I got my solitaire.

Mine was beautiful. A bigger diamond with 2 saphires and 6 tiny diamonds. My sister heroine addicted looser boyfriend stold it (along with a bunch of other stuff) while we were in California for our 12th anniversary (I have edema and arthritis really bad in my fingers (my ring size can vary up to 3 sizes) and can't wear it on a chain, so I left it at home to make sure I didn't take it off and forget it).
My mom died a year ago and in her will left me her wedding set which I have loved since appx age 3 since that is when she drafted the will and it stated it LOL. So I need to get an arthritis band so I can wear it sometimes.

Without my knowledge my mom offered DH a diamond from my grandmother's ring. She also hooked him up with a jeweler so he could have the diamond set. There were SO many settings that he was lost. He asked for my opinion and I picked out a very plain solitaire setting. I actually went and tried on a few rings and decided on the solitaire. Well the jeweler emailed DH and said she thought the stone would look better as the center stone for a three stone setting. He went with it. I was surprised when I saw it! I wanted a solitaire, but I do like the three stone setting! I LOVE that the center stone was from my grandmother's ring because I was very close to her!

DH kept saying "money was no object" so I jokingly said back "Why isn't Yiayia's stone on the side with a bigger diamond in the center?" He laughs!

I love my ring. It's a solitare in a yellow gold band. The band narrows under the diamond so it looks like a bow, sort of. DH picked it himself. I would have preferred white gold as most of my jewelry is silver, but I still love my ring. I just wear my silver anyway! We were only 20 when he proposed, and I had hinted for a sapphire because a) I love them and b) I didn't think a diamond was in his/our budget. What I didn't know was that he had purchased my ring in January of that year and it was hidden in his sister's house! He didn't propose till August! The ring was on manager's special and he knew I'd love it, even though it was a small diamond instead of a sapphire. :)

For our 10th anniversary I'd like a 3 stone ring with a sapphire in the center OR a diamond in the center with sapphires on each side. Only 2 years till then!

I love my ring BUT.. DFi knew exactly what I wanted: platinum, princess cut, skinny band, etc.

He did great (even though it was pretty easy for him to choose since his options were narrowed down a lot!)

What, no other?;)

We did not have a ring when we got married at the JP's. A couple of yrs. later dh pressured me into getting a ring because they were "on sale".

Looking back, I made a poor choice in haste and I do not like the ring.

I am going to get a 20/25yr ring to make up for it.

I was hoping for the 20yr however since that is next yr., it is not going to happen. I will shoot for 25yr ring.;)

I love my ring. It's princess cut with an oval sapphire on either size. The only thiing I would change is that it is 18k gold. DH got talked into 18k. It's too soft. It's always smushed into a semi circle. Plus my gmom gave me her wedding ring and it is 14k gold. So the 2 golds don't exactly match but I couldn't tell grandma no.

my dh picked out the ring I wanted but this year he noticed I didnt wear any of my yellow gold anymore so for my b day (he knew I would NEVER trade my stone)he went and picked out a white gold setting just like my old one (skinny band) but with 6 prongs...he knew I hated the 4 prong because I always worried I would loose it.It looks sooo pretty!! I have a 1 carat round diamond in white gold

I went to the store and picked it out myself. No way was DH going to spend that kind of money on something I didn't like. Good man :goodvibes

PS- I would have NOT found it even remotely romantic if he would have done it himself. That would have been a huge turn off to me. I don't wear a lot of jewelry and have very specific tastes. I also am a big believer in quality over quantity. With that major of a financial decision, I want my opinion heard!

I love my engagement ring. It is a 3/4 carat princess cut solitaire with a white gold band. My DH picked it out entirely on his own. It's not what I would have picked for myself...it's actually better! I get compliments on it all the time.

I adore my ring, but I picked out the setting myself. DH picked the center stone though.

I have to ask...am I the only person here who proudly wears her tiny diamond? It's 1/4 carat and I love it. The setting is gorgeous so it looks a bit bigger than it really is. I'd never trade it for a million years...though as I said, I'd love a ring with sapphires (which I'd wear on my other hand).

Lol, no, you're not the only one. Mine is 1/2 carat, and I would have gladly worn a smaller one if that is what DH would have picked for me. I'm not a jewelry person, I have small hands, and the thought of a huge ring would have been so strange to me.

We picked out mine together, a 1/4 marquee with three tiny diamonds on each side that cost a whole $345 almost eighteen years ago. After eldest DD I hadn't quite lost the weight, I took it to get re sized. Though it was one of the shops my jeweler owned it wasn't my jeweler and I'm pretty sure the stone was switched which made me hate it. To be honest I'm still not sure why I didn't go to my jeweler's main shop and complain, maybe mommy brain? (the old guy who did it was fired shortly after though):confused3 Anyway, a couple years later we took it to my jeweler (I now put my jewelery in his hands ONLY) and he gave me the whole $345 towards a new, bigger diamond and I loved my ring again.:goodvibes But alas, have not lost the weight from Thing One and Thing Two so it's sitting in my jewelry box. Right now I wear my 10yr anniversary band and 15yr three stone princess cut as a wedding set and love those too.

I didn't like my ring at all and I tried to hide the fact but DF knows me too well and could tell it wasn't my favorite, he took me back to the jeweler he bought it from and we picked out another... I had changed the main diamond from pear cut and the band from yellow gold to Mazarin cut with a platinum band... much better.

Nope, I do! I wanted a small diamond as I have a tendency to lose jewelery, especially rings! I rarely wear jewelery, so it wasn't a big deal, though I did pick it out and it is quite pretty, just small.

black diamond set in antique looking white gold surrounded by 5 small white diamonds on either side. I had no clue he was even going to propose, he picked it by himself and it's exactly what I would have picked.

Mine’s small. FI doesn’t have a lot of money and I didn’t want him spending more than $500 on a ring since I’m not a jewelry person. Also, I have tiny fingers and very small hands and I felt like a large stone would look awkward and “blingy” and I didn’t want that either.
