Do you like the layout of the DVC rooms?

Our family of 4 likes to go every year lately, and we have a teenage boy and 6 year old girl. We always stay deluxe because the kids need their own beds, and the 6 year old gets the daybed. I'm not really clear on accomodations we should buy if we decide to join DVC. I'm thinking we really need to get enough points for a 2 bedroom? Is a one bedroom really big enough for a family of 4? What do most families our size do? Do you like the sofa beds?
I would only buy from Disney, so I guess it would be at SSR. Can anyone help me hash this out with your experiences and suggestions? :flower:  :wave2:

Our family of 5 use 1 bdrms and studios with no problems. So a 1 bdrm should be fine for the family of 4.

Because the one bedrooms only have a king (not 2 queens in the master bedroom) that would leave the only other bed as the sofa bed, right? Our kids wouldn't share a bed. Are there any resorts that have 2 queens in the master bedroom?

No, none of the DVC resorts have two queens in the Master Bedroom.

Many members bring along an aero bed when their children can't or don't want to share beds. If that won't work for your family, your only DVC option that provides both children with their own bed (or pullout sofabed) would be the 2 bedroom units.

Best wishes -

No, you have it correct. None of the DVC resorts will have 2 queen beds in the master bdrm in a 1bdrm or larger villa. If you'll need separate beds for your kids you'll need a 2bdrm. That said, lots of people who have kids like yourself who won't sleep together bring an areobed or if one of the kids is small they either sleep on the loveseat with a sleeping bag or some will make a makeshift bed out of the sofa cushions on the floor. Although DVC is now allowing 5 in a room to be booked, from what I understand DVC will not provide the extra bedding and towels for the 5th person so this is something to be aware of too. They also will not provide a roll-away/cot either hense the need for the aero beds that people bring in those situations.

The studio and the 1BR sleeps 4. It has a king size bed in the master BR & a queen size pull-out sofa in the living room.

If your children won't share a bed, then you'd have to bring an air mattress or sleeping bag I guess, so one can sleep on the floor.

The other couch in the living room is a 2 cushion couch...loveseat I guess...so if your child isn't really tall, he/she couldprobaly sleep comfortably on that. Keep in mind though, that the DVC only supplies linens for the beds & sofa bed. To have oyur child sleep on the loveseat would require you to bring whatever linens you'd think necessary for that arrangement.

A 2BR unit has 2 beds in the second BR...queen size I think.

I would only buy from Disney because of no closing costs. I would not consider bringing an aerobed. This will be a large investment and I would think for such a large investment that a family member should not have to sleep on the floor! If our kids were closer in age and the same sex, a one bedroom would be fine. Looks like we'll have more space than we need, but to get each kid a bed we'll have to get enough points for a 2 bedroom. Thanks for the info so far, and for anything anyone else has to add!

I too felt strongly about buying only from Disney, but ended up doing one of each. The resale was painless, and even with closing costs it was a little cheaper. At least take a look and see if you could save money.

We are a family of three and we have, so far, gotten a two BR. I don't want to have to look at a sofabed pulled out!! We could easily use a studio, as DDs could share the sofabed, but that's just not vacation to me - I want everyone in a bed!!

You sound pretty sure of what you need, with that said if you can aford the points for a 2BR you will be very happy with your accomodations. We sometimes do a 2BR and although it seems like a waste (overkill) it is extremely relaxing and stress free to have that much room.

I second Jade1's opinion. Although with a family of four we don't need a 2 bedroom it is gloriously roomy, stress-free, and relaxing. Not tripping over the sofa bed in the morning is another plus. I'll save points by avoiding Fri and Sat nights to stay in a 2 bedroom over a 1 bedroom. As far as buying only from Disney, you may want to crunch some numbers. If you don't need financing, buying resale can save quite a bit of money and get you into one of the sold-out resorts quicker if that is your preference. We bought direct from Disney once and have since added 4 resales with all transactions being painless - except for that payment part! We finally have enough points to pass onto our kids so they can enjoy WDW when they have young families too, or take me to Disney and push me around in a wheelchair - whichever comes first!
Whatever you decide, I doubt you'll have regrets. The memories we have from our Disney DVC trips are priceless and there are many more to come :cloud9:

Exactly!
Extremely relaxing and stress free is what I call a vacation!
I, too cannot stand to look at on open sofa bed!
The question is ... can we afford and how many points do we need?!
I'll have to start studying the charts :earsboy:

Since you're used to regular hotel rooms without kitchens, another option would be getting two studios at OKW, which would have two queens each, though the rooms don't adjoin, I don't think. This works for some families.

If paying closing costs is the only thing keeping you from looking at a Resale, make an offer based on the seller paying or splitting the costs. If you need financing, consider an equity line of credit. There are so many things you can do. Look at what will save you some money and ask lots of questions. Our agents are knowledgeable and I think most on the board will agree they are NOT high pressure!

Provided you have the cash, and don't need financing, take a look at the Timeshare Store's website. There are several on that site that state that the seller will pay the closing costs. There was even one that had some banked points with it. It's a WLV at $79 per pt, 300 pts, and 120 banked pts. It's too many pts for us right now, but sounds like a good one to look into. If you continue to visit the website, others will come up.

I hope this make sense  but what I noticed that was a pain, in the One Bedroom, was the 2 doors that are in the bathroom. The door that leads to the master bedroom, and the other that leads to dining/living room. Whenever I needed to use the bathroom, I had to make sure both doors were shut and locked. I know it sounds simple, but when you are half asleep, and not in your regular room set up, and little unbalanced, where to step in the dark, it's a pain. Especially, since I would leave the door, that leads out to the main area open, for my son to see. I would put that light on, in the storage closet, which is connected to the bathroom, so he go find himself to it, if needed in middle of night. And so hopefully you can picture this, but as I go through our door, the other door was right there, blocking me from toilet, and was just a pain, to get that closed too.
 Gosh, that's a whole lot of rambling to say the only pain I see in the layout is those 2 doors. :teeth:

:confused3 I think this is the second post about using the couch/loveseat for chid#4 to sleep on. Isn't this the same as the pullout sofa that child #3 will be sleeping on? :confused3 Or maybe I'm just too tired at this hour and I'm making a fool of myself even asking this question! :confused3

i think it is confusing, too. That "love seat" they are talking about does not exist at BWV. I think it only exists at OKW.

At BWV (and also at BCV, VWL & SSR, AFAIK), the living area has a sleep sofa and an upolstered side chair - if you need another bed in those one bedrooms, you'd have to bring your own.

At OKW, there is apparently a sleep sofa and a love seat. I don't know if they also have an upholstered chair, too. Since I've never been in an OKW unit, I can't be sure. :)

Best wishes -
