Do you like Ken Jennings hosting Jeopardy?

Yuk! Talk about not liking some voices. :headache: Katie Couric sounds like a smurf. It's no wonder she couldn't hold the CBS evening news anchor position. She was fine as a smurf during the morning show....

So how does everyone feel about Mike Richards?

I'm visiting my parents, and they're die-hard Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune watchers, so I've been watching with them -- they complain that he "talks too fast." They're in their late 70's.

I liked Ken Jennings' demeanor -- it seemed to be a good match for the show.

BTW, Prince Harry said he watches Jeopardy! :woohoo:

It's cued up to that part of the interview yesterday with James Corden. If you want to see the whole interview, move the red the scroll button at the bottom of the screen to left to the beginning.

Can't stand Mayim's voice and Savannah sounds like a little girl.

Are the producers purposely bringing in bad hosts, so Ken Jennings seems like the best choice?

I tried. I really tried to watch Katie. Made it through the first show and bout 2/3 of the second show. She DOES sound like a Smurf. :headache: (I'm still holding to that. :duck: ) The voice of the host is about 85% of the show.

Then she also interjects these cheerleading comments, "Good for you! . . . Right!" I know she should be able to put her own personality & spin on the show, but it breaks up the rhythm of Jeopardy. I can't stand Katie hosting. :badpc: I keep trying to watch each episode as it comes on. Yet, within 5 min, I end up turning the channel. :crazy2:

I don’t. I cannot stand his voice and probably won’t watch if he is the permanent host. I liked the producer that filled in for a week or two.

I was not excited about Katie Couric, but after watching, I'm okay with it ... for a guest host spot. She would not be my choice for a permanent host, although I think she would grow into it. I very much appreciate the money being given to pancreatic cancer research, and I had forgotten about her sister passing away from the same disease a number of years ago. That made her as a guest host make more sense to me. For me, I just love the game, and so as long as the host isn't on my very short list of people I absolutely cannot/will not watch, I can deal with some awkwardness as they figure it out.

ITA about her cheerleading comments. They completely throw the timing off for me. I swear some of the answers she gets most excited about are the easiest too. :confused3
Plus I feel like she tends to interject herself. I don't care that Mighty Mouse was one of your favorite cartoon characters back in the day.

Since we're being forced to sit through a parade of guest hosts... I'm ready to bring on the next one. Looks like that's Dr. Oz.

It is nice that Jeopardy is donating to charities during the guest-hosting stints.

....and there lies the rub.....the producer of the show seems to be the most favored host, the most neutral....and even though I was way to old for Reading Rainbow....he maybe the Walter Conkrite and Mr. Rogers we need

Well, for adult viewing, you can always catch up on the '70s Roots miniseries and Star Trek: TNG to get the full Burton experience. Most of his stuff since Star Trek (besides still more Reading Rainbow) has been voice work and guest star spots as himself, both of which are pretty good prep for a game show host, especially one who mostly reads stuff out loud.

::yes:: I didn't mention Star Trek: The Next Generation, as anyone who watched it knows, LeVar needs no explanation. For those who don't know, he's the Chief Engineer on the Enterprise. He can make highly scientific techno-babble easily understood, like how the Enterprise can't escape their dire situation because there is a warp core breach imminent due to all the dilithium crystals being burnt out. He may be able to bypass the crystals by using the Heisenberg compensator to invert the power of the negative ion coupling which will jumpstart the warp core nacells. They may be able to reach warp that way. If it doesn't work, then the antimater chamber will blow up and the Kobayashi Maru no-win scenario may become real after all.

Anyone who can say all that and make us understand the Enterprise is about to be destroyed or explode, can certainly, easily read off the Jeopardy answers with grace and ease. :teacher: :thumbsup2

If anyone has attended a Star Trek convention and have seen the TNG cast do a panel will know LeVar, Jonathan Frakes (Riker) and Marina Sirtis (Deanna) are absolutely hilarious together. :rotfl2:LeVar is quite funny in real life. The cast said they were so animated and social and funny between takes, for some directors, the cast was like herding a bunch of cats. They just had too much energy together.

LeVar is also an accomplished director. He's currently directing episodes for NCIS: New Orleans, in it's final season. As for Reading Rainbow, it was on with new episodes from 1983-2015.

I think Anderson Cooper has been fine, but I liked both Ken Jennings and Mike Richards better personally.

I'm glad LeVar Burton is getting his shot at hosting. I don't like that he's already very publicly campaigning for the job.

I don't know which, if any, other guest hosts want the job long-term and I think that's how it should be.
While I don't know for sure, I imagine some took the guest host role because they loved the show, loved Alex, were flattered to be asked, and I'm sure the charity donations didn't hurt. I doubt they're all vying for the job on a permanent basis.

If you do want the job, come on the show, do a great job during your guest host stint, and make your case to the powers that be at Jeopardy. Don't turn it into a popularity contest. I'm sure many Jeopardy fans will make their preferences known, but even if there's a fan favorite (or vocal fan favorite), I question whether that person is necessarily right for the job. I think there's a lot more to it than that.

As always, JMHO
