Do you know your ceredit score? The national average is 678.

I have a way to get rich! Let's collect all sorts of information about people, use it to create a "number", let banks use that number to determine credit risk, and to top it all off, we'll make them PAY to see their number!

Sounds like a great way for someone to get rich.

I do think the feds forced them to let us see our credit reports free once a year, which is better than nothing.

I'm proud to say above. And that's because many years ago, I filed bankruptcy and it took this long to rebuild my good credit. I made a vow after my bankruptcy to never be late on anything and one day have good credit again.

And I did. I'm absolutely insane about paying everything on time. :thumbsup2

Well above - just closed on a construction loan, so I know exactly what it is. Like others, we went through some rough times several years ago, and I don't know what our score was then, but I probably don't want to. Lucky turn of events got us out of it, and I'm determined never to be in that situation ever again!

Utilization matters A LOT. I pay off my credit cards every month, but if I use them a lot my score will drop significantly that month.

I have a Wamu Visa that provides me with my credit rating every month, depending on which month you look at in 2006 my score has been as low as 643 and as high as 739. My score has always gone up or down at least 25 poitns every month this year. I have no delinquencies, bankruptcies, or late payments. My scores would be a little higher if I was older (only had any type of credit since 2003), and if I did not have 5 hard pulls on my credit this year.

In the months I barely used my CCs I have a very high rating, when I use it a good amount it will go way down.

Possibly a stupid question but does your credit score change month to month? If you pay off your cards one month, will your score change the next? I'm guessing creditors report your history every 30 days or so.

Your score changes a lot...more than monthly. There are many factors in FICO and they are fickle sometimes. I have a monitoring service where I can pull my credit reports anytime I want...and they are always different. ;)

and yes UTILIZATION is the biggest factor in FICO, not ontime payments. ;)

Out of the 3 CRA scores...2 of ours are above and 1 is below. The 3 big credit reporting agencies all have different criteria in their scoring models.
our scores fluctuate with our use. :)

Our score is above the average. Dh just checked.

I pulled my free yearly credit report from the 3 bureaus last month but I didn't receive the FICO score. Why isn't that available w/ the credit reports? Just so they can make more $$$ off of you?

Yes, they are only required to provide the credit report. If you want the score you'll have to pony up some hard earned $.

To answer the OP's question...mine is well above the quoted average. DH, on the other hand is below...waaaay below. We're working on his, though! I've taken over all the accounts in his name to make sure they're being paid on time, that alone should provide a bump up in score.

You are entitled to see your score at no cost if denied credit for any reason.

Above!

For a long time it was below, but that was due to my family running up credit in my name & defaulting on it.

It took a long time to clear up.

But thankfully both DH & I have excellent credit now. :)

False. You are entitled to see your credit report at no cost, not your score. The scores generated from any place other than myfico.com are FAKO's not FICOS. You can pay the extra $5.00 or whatever it is to see your FAKO on the credit reporting agencies website (experian, trans union and equifax), but it means nothing to creditors, they go by Ficos.

If you have a low score, check out www.creditboards.com forums. They are very helpful in rebuilding, etc.
