Do you know of a good book about "sex" for a 9 year old..

the problem is that i've reported to Mods this issue. As a former Mod of another site (with over 20K users), OT threads just clogs up valid discussion that is relevant to the current forum.

Its a pain to go through half a page of OT topics to get to actual Disney For Families threads...

That is the point. If Mods don't respond to reports. then I'll post in here and hope they see it.

If this is your view on off topic threads, then I should have expected to see a comment saying as much on the other off topic threads I have just been reading. But I haven't so I am assuming it is the nature of this particular thread that bothers you.

I don't have any issues with seeing if a thread is something I need to open. You place your cusor on the title it tell you a brief bit about it and I make my decisions from there. I am sure the majority of other people on these boards do the same thing.

To the OP. I am glad I have a few years up my sleeve until we get to that point. Although my son did ask me after I told him we were going to have another baby would he grow a baby in his tummy. When I told him no only girls he replied that Amelia will then. I am sure her mother will be pleased if her 3.5 year old comes home pregnant. LOL

Truthfully, I see the family forums as a resource for families who have a love of disney in common, and many OT postings are reaching out for the support of a likeminded soul.

:thumbsup2 Absolutely agree. I don't consider family/child related questions as "off-topic" on the Disney FAMILY board.

I too appreciate family oriented questions on the family board. My only disappointment is that the post was actually moved...to community where I would never consider going to review or ask questions regarding kids.

Thanks to OP because I had planned on searching through the boards to find the names of books. This had come up a few months ago and I really need to purchase something for dd10.:thumbsup2

I will never understand why some people want to ruin it for everyone else. We are all pretty capable of scrolling through topics we find irrelevant and opening those that we want to see. That is why I opened this thread.:confused3

Why was this thread moved? This is a completely appropriate thread for the family board. I am sending an email to the moderator.

Many of us with families don't even look at the board where this has been moved.

Edited: Apologies to the moderator, I did not know there was a policy to not discuss moderator decisions in the forum.

Why do you need a book?

Why can't you just talk to your son?

He's not a 5 year-old, he's 9.

I think he'd rather have "the talk" then just be handed a book and told to go read.

I remember having the book "Where did I come from" I would recommend it also! It's very annoying to me how some people feel the need to "police" the boards when that is not their job.

I had _Where Did I Come From?_ by Peter Mayle when I was a child. It's humorous and gives facts without going into intense detail. It has drawings that look like normal people, too, and not movie stars. ;) I would use this for my kids when it's time.

Totally agree. I can STILL remember my mom and I reading this book, and still have the copy somewhere.

Well, we do have books (Where Do I Come From which we got when DD was about 18 months and I was pregnanat with her brother, and It's Perfectly Normal which we have had since the kids were about 7 and 9). OP--I think those are both excellent books. Where Do I Come From has just the basic birds and bees and then It's Perfectly Normal has a LOT of information so it is a step up in that way. Both are presented well.

I think some parents need a starting off point and that is okay. If that helps them feel more comfortable and then they are able to have that conversation that is fantastic.

Personally, I am fine having the conversations (it is an ongoing dialouge at our house) with no books. However, I like having the books right there on the shelves and easily accesible. Sometimes the kids may just want to pick them up and reiview or digest some information on their own. Maybe they hear something and they are curios about it and don't feel like asking me about it immediately. I like them to have an accurate reference they can obtain easily. I also like to have the books becuase there are an awful lots of aspect to sexuality that I feel I need to cover with my kids in this world and, quite honestly, I need to flip through It's Perfectly Normal once in a while and make sure I am not forgetting anything.

I just bought the book "Preparing Your Son for Every Man's Battle" and got the same one for our daughters on Women. I have been reading with my daughter a couple days a week, it has great discussion points in it as well.

(Just a note, it is faith-based with the idea of being pure as God intended until marriage.)

Have you seen 90 % of this board..It is OT family and kid questions and concerns.

The description of the forum is

Join our moderators as they offer tips and information for anyone visiting Disney with families of all types and ages! Last I checked, talking sex OT isn't talking about visiting Disney.

now if you talk about kids having sex in Disney, etc... then it should stay. just because there is 90% OT threads doesn't make it right. That would be a failure of moving things around in the first place. its like allowing your kids to do whatever they want, then trying to discipline them. Not going to work at the beginning and will take time to turn around.

Maybe you should not worry about it.You are Not a MOD here.
nope, but I've been a mod, and as the above comments state, this place could have some good done to it if posts were in the proper place. just because you may not go there to a certain forum, isn't an excuse.

You may do things and say, "Oh everyone else does it" but its still not right.
last time I used that while speeding, I still got a ticket. ;)

I have..

and don't assume.. you know what they say about ASSuming... ;)

And again.. what is the purpose of DIS spending so much time organizing a site in forums and topics, if no one bothers... 5 threads on the same topic, OT posts everywhere, etc.. all lead to clutter (no, i'm not OCD, I just know how a forum should be easy to navigate and to get information pertinent to the thread descriptions).

I guarantee you... if DIS cleaned up a bit, this site would rock more than ever. If people don't bother visiting other boards here, then they lose out on good info.

Using a book to assist your talk is not the same as just handing them a book to go and read on their own.

To take this thread completely off topic, let us know how you do with your crusade to "clear" up the forums. I think, if you did a poll, you will find that the majority of people like the Family Dis forum the way it is.

Happy to be proven otherwise as I am a fair person. But just because you "know" how a forum is suppose to be run doesn't mean that the people using it want it changed.

You appear to be assuming that people want this forum sorted out. I am happy with the way things are as are others who have commented on this thread. But good luck getting it running to your liking.

actually, the description of the forum that this thread is on is:
Join our moderators in a discussion forum for any topic, Disney or otherwise. Swap stories, information, ask questions...just be friendly :)

Yes it does, but this thread originally started off in the Dis Families Forum, and was moved as it was reported as being off topic and therefore not appropriate for that forum.

It certainly fits in this forum, but it would seem alot of us also seem to think it fits in the Dis Families forum also.

I wonder if you are really not aware how incredibly condescending your comments are. It is not your job or your responsibility to police the posts on this site.

If I visit a forum and either don't like the comments or the moderating, I don't go back there! I don't assume that the forum should operate according to my wishes.

Most of us are here because we like the Dis the way it is. If you don't think the moderators are doing a good enough job (which I think they do great) then maybe YOU are the one who needs to find another site that suits your particular sensibilities. That is always an option rather than trying to dictate to the rest of us what the site should be like.
