Do you know any winners?

The mega millions lottery just had one winner for 315 million. I once knew a women who normally played the same numbers every week but because of time issues never bought her ticket one week. Of course her numbers were drawn. She went on a very lonnnnnnnnggggggg walk afterwords. This was years ago and 1 million was the prize. Do you know anybody who has won the lottery?

Why is it I always hear stories of people playing the same numbers every week, but don't play for some reason and their numbers get called?

We had a neighbor who won six million or so before taxes. They paid off and did a little renovation on their modest ranch home, bought new cars (nothing fancy though, she got a Taurus, he got a Buick), set up educational funds for their grandkids, gave some to their church, and took a one week vacation to Hawaii. Neither quit their job, they each had a few more years to retirement, which they planned on enjoying!

My friend's parents won $2 million a few years ago. They didn't go crazy though. You can't really with that amount.

My FIL's cousin won about 8 yrs ago. She was 70 yrs old, never married lived in the same house her whole life drove a 20 yr old car. After taxes she got about 8.5 million. She gave 8 M to the church, gave money to the fire department and rescue squad and bought herself a new car. Hasn't changed her lifestyle at all.

That's probably what I'd do...I'd make a plan of everything I'm going to do before going to claim the prize though so I don't go crazy and blow it all.

My Father won twice (not big money - a few thousand) and family friends won $3 million when they were living in Iowa. They used the money to move back to MA and open a B&B

One of my coworkers husband won 100,000 in a scratch off before. He got 66,000 after taxes.

DH's coworker just won $800,000 a few weeks ago. The coworker's wife bought a Powerball ticket and matched 5 numbers, plus had paid the extra $1 to get a multiplier figure, so they won the $200,000 for matching 5 numbers and the multiplier number was 4, so $800,000. The coworker is older and makes good money -- they went away on vacation, but he hasn't quit his job.

There was a guy I used to work with many moons ago who once won a state lotto. Not sure what the amlutn was, but every year he would get a check for $75,000. He'd make a photo copy of it and hang it on the wall and have drinks on him for the night atthe local bar.

My aunt and uncle won $50,000 (after taxes) a number of years ago.. They split it up between their 3 kids because it "wasn't really enough to be bothered with"..

I would be more than happy to be "bothered" with 50 grand!!

My uncle just won a few months ago. He has played the same numbers forever. It wasn't millions, but it was perfect for him. He is older and was down to very little in his checking account. He's going to use some of it to get a new carpet.

I have a friend whose husband won $10M will a group of 9 other guys. This was years ago before lump sum payments. I think that they wound up with an extra $27K or so per year.

I guess the most I've ever won was $10 on one ticket. I decided not to hire a tax lawyer to tell me what to do with the winnings. Instead, I treated my friends to a nice dinner at McDonalds. Ah, the memories will last forever.
