Do you keep your doors locked when in the house?

I lock the doors when I go to bed at night. Otherwise they are not locked when I am at home.

At the lake house that is on a private road, I unlock the doors when I arrive and lock them when I leave. They do not get locked even when out shopping or boating etc.

Didn't we all establish this earlier this month? I am pretty sure there is an identical thread somewhere close...

We keep our doors unlocked, but we also have a dog that would deter outsiders.

HWne i used to live with my parents our door was almost always unlocked, but now that I live on my own in a wayyyy bigger city, they're always locked.

You are aware that most burglaries happen during the DAY? It's a falacy that many burglaries happen at night when most people are actually home and can confront the burglar.

Yes, I never understand why we need two of the same threads. We don't have any, then there are two which appear close in time to each other. The first thread drops off. But the second OP had to have read/seen the first thread to ave gotten the idea. It happens a lot on the DIS.

Due to some vandalism and threatening in the past we keep the doors locked at all times. We have various alarms with our security system but they are only set when we area away or at night.

Doors wide open (with screen door closed) during day. Closed and locked at night.

Both. If someone is up and goes outside, then the door is unlocked for the day. The front door is always locked at night. If we don't go anywhere then we have no reason to unlock the door and it stays locked from the night before. The back door is always unlocked though. We have a privacy fence that is kept locked. We also have 115 pound dog that doesn't like strangers. I call him my first line of defense. :lmao:

Yup its allll about where you live, also about how you were brought up. We're small town, rural, surrounded by farmland, that sort of thing. I never lock my doors when I am home, never have never will. Heck, sometimes I forget to lock them when I leave (but I am trying to get better). Windows are wide open, etc. Nothing has ever been broken into, I have never been robbed. I do lock them when I go to bed at night.

My BFF on the other hand, has lived here for 25 years, but before that lived in the concrete jungles of Southern California. To this day, her house is locked up tight as a drum 24/7 AND her fancy spendy alarm system is set. I think its just hardwired into her brain, just like being free and unlocked is hardwired into mine.

We drive eachother nuts.

Never locked unless we go away overnight and sometimes not even then. Due to the seclusion of my house, I figure anyone who comes to it already has a agenda. Years ago, my french doors were worth more than anything in the house. The doors are now gone but there really isn't anything of real worth. Like I said, if they are going to break in, they've already made a plan and they'll just smash the slider given that no neighbors are around to prevent them.

Everything is relative.

I have never understood living anywhere with the doors unlocked. I'm from the MEAN streets of Brooklyn and people would come in thru 5 locks!! :lmao: Yeah YOU would drive me crazy!

We always joke that if someone breaks in, they will leave us $20 because they will feel bad for us.

They want it so badly, take it.
