Do you have to use your legal first name on tickets?

My nephew goes by his middle name and not his legal first name. I am wondering if I can use his middle name on all reservations and tickets or do I have to list his legal first name? I understand I will need to use his legal name for his airline ticket, but will Disney require him to go by his legal name?

While not an exact answer to your question (I think), this is what I was told when I asked something similar: "You are able to use [middle name] in your My Disney Experience® account if that's what you would prefer to be called, Mouseketeer." For me, I never use my first name so I would completely ignore things like this. But I got to use my normal/preferred name and I caught it!

I use my middle name on my Annual Pass and have never had an issue. On occasions, I have had my ID checked when using my AP for purchase discounts, and it has never been questioned.

My husband goes by his middle name and that’s what it is in his MDE. It’s still legally his name so you’ll be fine. Even when he has to pull out his license, they usually have full first and middle names on them. It’s never really been an issue. We were doing something the other night and realized some of our car titles are in his first name, some in his middle name, and one with first initial and his middle name.

Several years ago as my husband was entering using his fingerprint with his AP, it would not work. So the CM asked him for ID. My husband’s name is John, but he goes by Jack, so Jack was on his AP. Well, when he pulled out his license, it says John. The CM tried to claim that it was NOT the same name. Another CM had to come and explain that Jack is a VERY common nickname for John! We still laugh about that. But I am pretty sure you will not have any problem!

Call my clueless but I had no idea Jack was a common nickname for John. :confused3 I would have been like the first CM. Guess I can say I did actually learn something new today. Now with new Jacks I meet I will secretly be wondering if their real name is John LOL

My Son uses his nickname on his, which isn't his first name or middle. Never has caused trouble.

My husband goes by his middle name but always puts his legal name on tickets, etc. in case ID is asked for.

And to complicate things even further - I have a Jack but his name isn't short for John, it's just Jack on the birth certificate...
