Do you HAVE to link your credit card to Magic band?

This will be my first time using Magic bands..

I did the online check-in and linked my credit card like it asks you to do. I think I read/heard that the magic bands are used not only as your room key and fast pass but also linked to your credit card so you can pay for things with your magic band? Is that right?

If so...can I UNDO that? Lol. I'm traveling with my 16 year old son and his friend and the last thing I want is them running around swiping their magic bands in every store and churro stand, draining my bank account.
There are going to lots of times where we will split up (I like to spend more time in World Showcase than they do) and I cant have eyes on everything they buy all the time- and if its as easy as just swiping a magic band, I'll be broke by the end of the week.

My sons friend is bringing his own spending money, so he doesn't need to be spending mine. But I paid for the entire trip and everything is under my name so his magic band would be taking from MY credit card.

And I usually give my son a certain amount to spend. That way he's more conscious about what he buys because he has that limit. I prefer to just keep doing it the old way, which is give him his own cold hard cash to ration out on his own.

Is there a way to just take that feature off of their bands and just have it on mine? Or can my sons friend put his own money on his magic band if he wants to use his to buy things rather than carry the cash? And can I put a pre-set limit on my sons magic band?

If not, can I just take that feature OFF of our magic bands altogether and just stick to cash like I always do?

No you do not have to do it, I don't do it any more since I've found 5 out of 6 times I've tried to use it in the parks either the system is down and I have to use either cash or a card anyway or the pin gets erased from my account. I just carry a little cash and a cc with me. You might think about buying those boys a couple of gift cards for their own use then you can control the spending. Give them a limit and if they go over, oh well tuff luck son (you can add to them if you want though).

Oh thank God for that! Do I need to let them know at the check in to disable that part?

Also, gift cards are a good idea, thanks. They have those right here at the Target by my house.
